Most people really notice items like this, when you take a real interest in their work.
I repaired radios and TV's, at least that long, only part time. I also tried it full time for two years. Too much work for the pay. Too many hours!
I still collect old sets and small screen portable color and B/W sets.
The first that I do is remove the cover, if I don't own a set just like it.
AFAIC, it's no fun collecting, if you don't know what's inside. :sigh:

It's funny how people seem to collect old TVs who have little to no knowledge of their workings, or of broadcast terminology/systems. Sort of a classic-car collector who doesn't know how to calibrate a carburetor or do an oil change and filter change. To each his own though--but it costs considerably more to not know, in both hobbies mentioned.

As for the 'Concerto' from the O.P., I will assume it is nonworking 'til I see a screenshot he-he-he :D:D

All my vintage gear works... or else I wouldnt bother with it.

It was probably the most complex job for the money you could do.
Always learning something new & things changed fast from the late
70's on. Never got rich but did OK mostly due to yankee frugality.
I understand the pulling the back thing. When something new or
unusual came in I couldnt wait to see the guts for the first time.
I also enjoy spotting sets on TV but newer ones are hard. Just
plain black boxes, the styling went to the dogs just like the innards.
Now that its over I realize how much fun I had & come here to
relive some of the memories.

Well, she was giving it away. People always feel bad about sentimental things.
It was her parents.

I don't know much about that stuff either, but I learn to do by doing, and right now I don't have the diagnostic tools I need. The tools are common (not to mention expensive); the sets, not so much. My sets will just have to sit until I can actually work on them.

I had a Candle tv years ago. 19" black glossy plastic cabinet, color, early-mid 1980's, mechanical tuners. Never had a problem with it - my Father watched it for years and gave it to me around 1997. I passed it on to a college buddy who didn't own a TV about a year later. Never have seen another one like it though.

I never saw a Candle color set.
I know they were one of the first Japanese producers of radios and small B/W TV's. They also made private label products, as well.
Someone else must be using their name, as I thought they were out of business. :scratch2:
