A humbling moment I am sure. Mine was necking a POS GE
B&W. Kinda hard to tell him but he was good about it.
Happens to everyone a few times he said. Part of the overhead.
His son did the same thing once & he played stupid. A few
minutes under brite lights & a rubber hose got him to confess.
The skin & hair was flying.

I got it so far off, it needed realignment. Thankfully, another shop had the cool Leader FM multiplex generator and we got the thing spot on a day later. Lesson learned, and I never touched another IF or MPX can in a consumer product, ever, except for the RCA quad coils (little square-holed slug) in the Colortrak days, and the occasional APC alignment.

I've related this anecdote on here before. Our shop hired a new guy who was a known hotshot at fixing radios and "tube jockey level" TV repairs. Within a few days a set came in with low contrast (Zenith 19" BW portable, series string). After trying tubes to no avail, the guy started twiddling the video IFs to get them 'on peak' for maximum gain.

BTW the owner never did an alignment & started in the early 50's.

When I started with him he told me within a few days " touch an
IF coil & you WILL be fired !".

Now that is funny :thmbsp:
