I've thought seriously about bidding on this one, but can't imagine what use it would be other than as a shelf queen, which is of no interest to me. How would one go about generating a signal to the old standard? (Apparently the horizontal scan freq. Was 13,200 hz or something it that area.

The buyer is probably planning to use an Aurora standards converter to use it!
They're using those in Britain to run the 405 line sets that were used well into the 60's. I understand that it can emulate just about every standard ever used.
In this country some collectors are using pre-war RCA's converted to the post-war standards. :scratch2:

Its an electrostatic deflection set. It will "just work" with a modern signal.

US 1939 television was 441 line. The switch to 525 by 1941 did not require radical changes to the horizontal scan frequency to work. 1939 RCA televisions designed for 441 line worked on 525 just fine with no modification to the horizontal scan circuitry.

And what about the frequency gap between audio and video subcarriers?

Most RCA sets could with sound IF adjustment tune the new FM sound with their AM sound detectors acting as FM slope detectors.

Odds are.the meisner would be capable too.

Part of.me is tempted to bid on the meisner... though it could easily drift out of my savings, and if I did paying off the principle of a student loan and the ETF meet would probably end up in direct competition for funding....

My advise is pay off your school loan. You're young enough to get a real bargain on many of these sets the second time around. I'd be very surprised if they go up in value as the current collector base dwindles. More than likely the same scenario that's happening now to early radio collections. Your bigger concern will be having enough storage space to house them all. :)

The spacing remained the same at 4.5 MHz. The difference however was a switch in modulation between AM to FM. Rather than modify the circuit to include a discrimator, they used the existing AM envelope detecto to "slope" demodulate the FM. Not very linear but it worked.
