Nice job Phil!

You've given me hope for my Crosely with the very similar chassis.

Sure is looking great Phil! I'm kind of jealous! I am really looking foward to seeing the finished product, back in the cabinet.

Long live the Dumont's!
have fun!

I wish I liked refinishing as much as making pictures show up. Now I have two console cabinets stacked up to refinish. They'll get done this Fall, I promise.

This set was a treat to work on. Even I can see the quality difference between this and some others.

Some folks sure do put more effort into an ebay listing than others!

That cabinet's in much better shape than mine was, but every knob is wrong. Their photo reinforces my guess that I'm missing a clear cover for the tuning dial. Their price is insane (duh).

By coincidence, a few days ago I got the cabinet back from the refinisher and updated my article ( http://antiqueradio.org/DuMontRA-103Television.htm ). Haven't figured out yet where to put it, but it's sure fun to watch.

Phil, that's a rare beauty, and I really enjoyed your report on the restoration process.

Hey Phil, this was a great thread and your set came out great. I absolutely LOVE and respect the DuMonts. I have looked at the last picture so long that I noticed that the grille cloth looks almost too perfect. Did you Photoshop that picture while waiting on some replacement cloth, or is the original cloth THAT nice? Just curious.... :scratch2:

Phil Nelson 02-25-2010 07:41 PM

That's the original cloth, which amazingly didn't get moldy during the years when it sat in a damp garage and the cabinet half sprung itself to pieces. I just brushed out the dust with a soft children's toothbrush.

I did grayscale the screen image part, which always comes out blue with my camera. I need to look up the camera manual online and figure out how to change the light (correction?) settings.

Phil
