Motorola 19" serial numbers
 

My set is marked on the back, 19C K1B, and the serial number is E2100.

The tube layout indicates a recent production tube change from 6BL7 vertical osc/output to a 6BX7.

Well, so much for the idea that the B models had 5 digit serial numbers. Thanks for the information, Harry.

Looks like the B on the model# was originally an R or perhaps some other letter and changed to a B with blue ink. The same color ink that they used to cover over the 6BL7 tube i.d. on the tube chart.

Several years ago I donated a Moto chassis and 21AXP (no cabinet) to ETF. I could have started life as 19" and been converted. I don't know.

In the upper LH portion of the vertical chassis is the number 4340. In the other picture on the extreme right, on the HV chassis, you can see an "E" but that's where the photo ends. Bummer

After looking at Harry's photos, maybe mine didn't start as a 19" chassis. It was the model with the long legs. TV model that is. Here are a few more photos. Maybe they will help.

Phil, we still have the chassis. It is a TS-902, and is from the 19CK/CT line. I'll check the serial number tomorrow.

Yes, and when that CBS-owned patent expired in 1972, CBS thanked Peter Goldmark and his Laboratory by forcing Goldmark out of CBS.

First, where is the chassis number on this set (TS-902)? My set has no model number on the back cover, and no obvious evidence it ever had one. There is no tube location diagram on the cabinet or back cover, but ther is a paper label cube chart for the color circuits pasted to the vertical color chassis.

Here is what the Motorola service lit. says.

2 main chassis types:
Ts-902 (VHF)
TS-902Y (UHF)
Chassis coding system:
A-00 The original production chassis
A-01,02 etc minor electrical changes to the A version chassis
B-00 First major production changes to the original chassis
B-01,02 etc minor electrical changes to the B version chassis
Prefixes such as W,R,V,T etc mechanical changes

Example: chassis number could be TS-902YA-01W

I would be interested to see the chassis numbers correlated with the serial numbers :-)

The serial number of the chassis that Phil donated is E13482. I noticed that the E is all the way over to the left, and I think it wouldn't be visible with the back on. Is it possible that all the serial numbers start with E, but collectors who reported their serial numbers by looking at the set with the back on missed the E?

Wow! What a spectacular find and wonderful TV, can't ask for more than to find one in that condition, if at all. Congratulations Boss.

I went to Harry's and saw this beauty and will say it looks nice in the photos but in person....WOW is what comes to mind , i think its more attractive then the CT-100.
