I have a couple cosmetic questions for anyone who has one of these sets.

Looking at the backside of the screen where the foldouts attach, I have a 3/4" spacer on the left, but none on the right. I'm guessing the right side had a spacer too, but the wood broke loose like it has in the left and someone removed it and drove the screw deeper into the frame ?

I'm also wondering about this spring loaded flap over the power supply. It seems to serve no purpose other than getting in the way ?

on my set, the cardboard flaps are taped in place. Not sure if this is original or not. No spacers.

I have a Scott 800b, just like that one. The cabinet weighs over 100 pounds, without the chassis. It's the Chippendale Grande cabinet, in Mahogany.
The two chassis and 15" speaker weigh about 80 pounds. :yes:

If you have the room, go for it. The 800B is one of the best postwar consumer receivers, in my book. There are many discussions of it in ARF, including a circuit to improve the "shy" bass response.

$150 is a good value. It's the elephantine size & weight that depresses the price of these guys.

Amazingly, what appeared to be a NOS (or nearly so) Protelgram kit (minus the CRT mounting hardware and yoke) appeared on ebay a couple weeks ago.
I ended up paying a bit for it, but I figured it could be a very long time before something similar showed up.
I especially wanted the optical assembly since my corrective lens is cloudy and front surface mirrors stained.

All I need now is lots of time :yes: First though I've committed to restoring an Admiral for a local collector and I'd like to finish off some of my outstanding projects.

There aren't that many TV parts in common between the US and the UK but it looks as if the projection system is one of them.
Here is the Mullard stuff used in Philips and Decca sets over here. CRT is MW6-2.

My parents' first set in 1952 was a Philips 1400 using rear projection with this system. The picture wasn't that great, principally because it didn't have proper d.c. restoration so you got black bands on each side of white objects.

In recent times I've seen very much better results from this system used in a Decca 1000 that projects a 3' x 4' picture on a separate screen. This had amazing resolution (given the picture size) and proper d.c.restoration. See attached test card.

Hi, I have a 3HP7 crt lying around, is it of any use to you? The pic of your Protelgram reminded me of it. I have a lot of oddball CRTs from o-scopes and things like that.

Project Records and Ovation seemed to have been the main suppliers of EV/4 encoded Quad LP discs by the way, a format which was a lot less common, as SQ, QS, and CD-4 took over, (Sansui's QS for me was the best practical Quad LP format, Matrix at it's best, backwards compatible with Stereo and Mono, the only practical broadcast format).

With "Meck" stamped on the tuner, that probably answers the question of who made the set for Scott. Meck did eventually acquire the company.
