Ok.. so that outer focus problem just cured itself. Well I mean it's alot better.. it's been slowly getting better over the last 2 days.

No, I think the KV-2601 was out before this one, that one was more stripped down (it's not even a remote control set). However this is the one of the Poltergeist TVs, which is pretty cool.

Lol I did this. I was bored. Even the time in the clock is matched. First pic is from the movie, second is mine.

Btw, CRT is still holding strong. Had to make a correction on the red and back it off slightly.

Still looking like a Trinitron should look. Ran about 3-4 hours a day. Picture seems really good after spending a few hours with convergence and pincushion corrections.

Pretty impressive it is still going that well.

I may have to try your trick if the intermittent smearing green and red getting WAY overdriven till the protect circuit kicks it off isn't a solder issue on my Super Fine Pitch Wega... Slapping it on power up seems to reset the problem...If it weren't a 200lb monster I'd have pulled the back already.

Well all.... I ran into a problem. my 6 year old dumped gorilla glue all over the top of the tv. It came off the wood with some goo gone but it took the paint clean off the top of the crt bezel surround. it's like a matte grey. I noticed my KV-1510 has the same color. So appears the CRT bezel on my RCA CTC39. Anyone ever repaint the grey on a CRT bezel let me in on what the paint code or color I should look out for? I'm thinking about taking a piece off and going down to a paint shop to have them match it. I hate to have to paint the whole surround, hoping to just repaint the top. Already tried this with a Ford color I found in the garage from a previous car repair. The color almost matched but was too light and of course gloss. This appears to be flat or matte finish.

1st pic is the KV-2643R
2nd pic is the KV-1510.

Thanks all

Auto parts stores seem to have the best selection of grays...it will all be in gloss, but if the color match is good you could follow up with a more mate finish of clear lacquer.

Still going strong! 2-4 hours a day use.

I really like that clock feature on the tv. I like that green glow. Can the clock display be dimmed or brighter? I have Sony Betamax decks that can have the display on a dim or bright setting with a switch.

Popester 11-08-2019 04:55 PM

Do you use the lumisponder feature? I never liked how low the contrast looked with them on. Probably a gimmick Sony used to sell tv's. I know most of the manufactures were also using the feature. I always disabled it on my sets.

freakaftr8 11-08-2019 11:01 PM

No unfortunately the clock and a channel display indicator are not adjustable. The Lumisponder is kind of cool. But yes it does dim the picture quite a bit however where I have it placed a does do a pretty good job sense the light from the front door shines directly near the TV during the day and brightens the room the TV goes to full brightness and contrast that at night it dims about 60% of it. Although it is easier on the eyes it does get a little too dim for my taste so I really don't use it.

Aaaaannnnnddddd. That's all she wrote folks. Last night the red started to smear and noticed the red BKG getting a reddish hue to it. Green gun going south for the winter (or forever)... white background on like games make the white go florescent green. Oh well. Maybe I'll try to whack it again.

Electronic M 11-13-2019 07:54 AM

I had a similar issue on my 2004 super-fine-pitch HD Trinitron. Gray scale would intermittently get too red red and green would smear and eventually it would shoot so red it would trip the protection circuits and shut down....a smack before it reached shut down would usually bring things back to normal...got sick of the problem and reflowed the solder on the red amp IC and heatsink and it hasn't misbehaved since.

Sony used to make new jugs in San Diego. I think even some of their models might of been made there but I did know that in the seventies you get get new jugs from Sony. I wonder if you could find one to replaced it. I think yours is tired 😓. Such a nice console too. Maybe you could find a jug somewhere.

freakaftr8 11-14-2019 11:50 PM

Yea I wish. I'm in California and you think there may be a stockpile of these somewhere considering how many 710AB22 CRTS were replaced in the 80s and 90s to the more robust A67JHG00X and A67JHG01X. The red gun is done now. Tried my trick and something in the neck arced bad. Now it's a dud. So I did a proper send-off and sent 20v to the heaters. Lol. It was a lightshow! I'll be storing it in the garage in case I happen to come across a beat up set with a good jug. I found one on OfferUp in Oakland, bit the person wont get back to me. It's the KV-2649R. the stereo model that was also featured in Poltergeist. its beat up thou.

However on a good note, I get to play with a dead PVM-1953MD I just picked up. Should be fun..

Popester 11-16-2019 09:48 PM

Don't give up on finding a jug. There has to be one out there waiting for you to get. These were very nice tv's in there day. They only thing about the Sony CRT's is that they tended to have a short life span. It's also to bad that we don't live in an era anymore where a rebuilt would be available. Good luck. That set would be worth hanging onto for a jug.

freakaftr8 10-18-2020 03:27 PM

Bringing this one back from the dead. New CRT installed from a trip to Los Angeles to pick up a roach infested KV-2670R. Swiped the good A67JHG01X and viola beautiful picture after some convergence and purity tweaks of course. So it's alive again! But looking to bypass the tuner, imI started a new thread on here.
