The design of those rooms is interesting to someone that did not live in that decade. The author has quite way with words...It has been the most hilarious read about any hotel that I've ever had.:lmao:

Being in Wisconsin all my life, I heard of Hartwig's Gobbler, I never knew it to be a "Kinky Joint".
I think it was named "The Gobbler" because the Hartwigs ran a turkey farm and processing plant.
Were the rooms rented by the hour? :D

Hartwig's was a popular spot for UW-Whitewater students in the '60's & '70's. When your girlfriend came down for the weekend you'd dine her at The Fireside in Fort Atkinson, and then take her up to The Gobbler for the rest of the weekend.

UW-Platteville students took their girlfriends to Dickeyville for the weekend where you could get a motel room with a waterbed for $22/night.

Remember the early '70's? A waterbed store in every shopping center. Now you rarely hear of them.
