I can't believe that 621-TS is up to $218.50, with 2 days left on the auction. This is PLUS $50 shipping and destruction. "One mans trash" if you will. I love old TVs and I've seen a lot of NICE stuff go for a whole lot less. I know 621's are desirable but personally I would rather leave a set with a rusty chassis, rhodent chewed capacitor cans, and a crt that is removed for some reason alone. Yeah, you can fix anything if you want to, or can afford it.

I must say that ion trap magnet was very interesting. An electromagnet I suppose.

Now that MIGHTY Dumont Eric found is my kind of ad. I think it is $20 with no bids so far. This set looks like it is on a showroom floor. For my money and taste I would rather have this one Dumont than 10 of that 621. Sure wish I lived near Michigan!! That beauty would be mine. A slow warm may produce a plug and play 50 year old set. If not this would be a fun restore...

jpdylon 05-06-2007 10:48 AM

That Stromberg is a rare one indeed. The only other instance I've witnessed of that model is another collector here in san diego who owns one. He's slowly rebuilding the chassis, and it was still working even after 50 something years. It is a very unique Chinese styling with a carved front.

If the fly, CRT, and power supply transformer are good, its definitely a set worth perusing at that price if the cabinet is in good condition.

Nice set, but I think the $400 asking price is a bit high.

Free Zenith, LA craigslist: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/zip/334768769.html

There's no picture in the ad, but my suspicion is that it's the same one that I saw on there earlier which was an early 60s space command b/w console.

Admiral box

About that Admiral box - I have some interest on it, but that model T1811 I couldn`t find listed in a book I have called "Most Often Needed 1953 Television Service Information" . I wanted to have a clue about the size of that model, by seeing which chassis it used. I have a 1953 Admiral, model 17DX12, that uses the 19B1 chassis, and I want to know if that box for the T1811 model suits my TV. Not that I really intend to use that box to transport my TV, but I think it would be very cool if I have an Admiral box of the same year that could suit my set.

Recently I bought another Admiral like mine on Ebay ( probably some of you guys will want to kill me for that! ) just to take some parts out of it, to put on my TV, including the back cover ( unfortunately this set also didn`t had the frontal plastic control door - oh well, maybe someday... ). Having that box would be a very nice addition.

Nice '59 RCA B&W w/remote in Chicagoland

1 Attachment(s)
Here's a rather nice-looking late 50's RCA B&W console with remote on eBay.
(item #320117997831) Opening price sounds quite reasonable too and no bids with one day to go.

Seems kinda surprising to me that it has remote control and a channel number window even though it's only a "Super"-line set.

Here is a good opportunity on an early Admiral if you could stand looking at it. Perhaps the ugliest set I have ever seen. What do you think?

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ADMIRAL-...QQcmdZViewItem

Tubejunke 05-31-2007 11:27 PM

Here is a good shot at getting one of the best quality and most interesting sets ever made. Its a Dumont RA-109. Unfortunatly it used the dreaded 19AP4 metal/glass crt. This set looks like it has the original tube with NO brightener which is evidence of low use time.

If space is an issue you dont want this set. I gave mine away several years ago just so it would not be out in a shed doing time as a rhodent nest. Too big for my small house. These sets are wonderful and super interesting. Dual high and low voltage rectifiers and a probably 60lb. power transformer. Super high end for the day, 1948 or so.

You will need to take a truck and 3 or 4 healthy friends to pick this one up. Well maybe just one friend and a refrigerator dolly.....

I have one of those, and it is much better looking than in that picture. Personally, I have seen many that are really ugly, like many from the late 50's/early 60's.

bgadow 06-01-2007 11:18 AM

I have one of those Admirals, too. Yes, much better in person. Unique in that the top extends out further than the bottom. Mine needs refinishing; I have it mostly working though it has some sort of video issue as I recall. That was a popular series for Admiral-there is a matching radio/phono you could buy to go with it. Same chassis was used in the bakelite consoles.

I've been in contact with the buyer, sadly the CRT got broken in transit.
Been trying to locate a replacement for him.

ChrisW6ATV 06-06-2007 02:04 AM

It was bought 39 minutes after it was listed. That's too bad about the CRT; I hope you are able to find one.
