Welcome, Adam! Wow, this forum is growing by leaps & bounds! As for sources for capacitors, I guess most of us get them mail order. There are a number of good sources: justradios.com, radiodaze.com, mouser, AES, etc. Look forward to hearing/seeing more of your collection!

Adam, thanks for joining the forums...we find at our shop that justradios.com is a very good source for caps. We have had to go pretty much to all mail order for parts now...we bought out all the caps at the local distributors, which mostly have not replenished the stock.

pictures of old televisions
5 Attachment(s)
Thank you all very much for welcoming me to the forum! I've been looking around and look foward to learning alot about televisions. I didn't realize there were so many operational old sets out there. I am particulary surprised to see so many of the round screen color sets.
Here are some pictures of some of my sets. They didn't all come out too well where I tried to take a picture of the tv on for two reasons. First, the flash made the picture look dim. Secondly, I think the camera actually took the picture in less time it takes a tv to scan through the whole screen (this is my theory anyway), so the entire picture on the tv screen is not visible. I have seen pictures of working tvs, is there an adjustment on some cameras to make it take the picture slower? I don't think I put them back in the proper order, but anyway this is the last of what I have on this computer. The TV only seen from behind is my Philco. |

Hey Adam...
The Olympic you painted... that don't look half bad! In fact, it's kinda funky! I think one of our other guys has one similar w/out the radio and in blonde. Yes, the flash will wash out your shots of a set operating. Turning off the flash works well for me. I also open windows to let outside light into the room. |
Polaraman's Admiral
Rich,
Cool looking Admiral. It reminds me of the blonde Silvertone in the tv shop attic that had the record player w/out radio. You're right... looks interesting not being a typical square box. Good luck with restoration. |

Those are some tasty sets you got there, Adam. Is that long console a Magnavox? I'm definitely diggin' that. Welcome, and hang around. The guys here have enough experience--and share it--so that even I have managed to do some stuff! veg |
Those are actually two different Magnavoxes, same year same model.
Heres some of mine back. |

All of AK's photos were lost a couple of months ago when we had server issues. Not sure of the details, but, they are working on trying to get them back. The photos you currently see were posted after we switched servers.

I have a late 50's Airline 21" console in original but non working condition. The set is in very decent shape and I wish to give it to a good home. I also have a 1958 Zenith Space Command with I believe a 24" crt that drove me nuts last winter trying to recap and get rid of the symptoms of hum for sound with no signal and no vertical sweep. Thats the way I bought the set and after replacing nearly every capacitor and all bad resistors I wound up with the same exact problems. I put it aside out of agravation. I had high hopes for this beautiful set that looks as if it was hardly used, if at all. All tubes were period stock and the chassis and crt were very clean. No black sut on the crt and inside the HV cage. I wondered if maybe the thing had a factory defect and has always been set aside. I guess it needs a good home as well. Someone with more technical knowlege than I could fix what is likely ONE single short and have a set that will last a lifetime with little trouble. Sorry but I really cant GIVE this one away as I have sank a little in the caps and resistors. Plus the Space Commands are kind of special being early examples of remote control sets. I could break even at $50 if anyone is interested. Come get both! If anyone has a 21ZP4B CRT in good shape we can swap. Sorry for being long, thanks for reading..... |
