You don't have the Sams? Do you know what number it is? Perhaps one of us has it.

You know there is? I assumed that if that fuse was bad, that the set would do absolutely nothing. Checked the fuse. Yep, it's bad!

Put a new fuse in, but it changed nothing. Excellent call, though :)

This is the one:

Might just as well spend the $15, if nobody happens to have it handy....

I'd be checking for drive from the oscillator, B+ on the output tube, the damper circuits. Could easily be something like an open resistor... Is the yoke OK, too? Does the horizontal output actually get HOT, other than filament hot? So many possiblilities!

I think the schematic would be something worth getting at this point, for sure.

It's not hotplating, if that's what you mean.....

And yep, gonna definitely need a schematic now.

Charlie 06-10-2013 08:40 PM

I will check tomorrow. Just might have it. It's a real bitch trying to chase down a problem without a Sams.

Yes. I assumed you would have told us if it was red plating, anyway.

You'll get it going!

Kamakiri 06-10-2013 08:52 PM

I pretty much have to now! :)

I knew there'd be a little adversity with it, though. After all, the best laid plans of mice and men......

Tim, I found the paperwork on your set. I am going to start scanning the pages. PM me with your email address and I will send these to you when I finish.

Kamakiri 06-13-2013 06:28 AM

You are awesome!

Keep that a secret! ;)

Back on this set for a bit. No HV, so I have a pair of 5642s on order. We'll see what happens next :)

Kamakiri 08-13-2013 08:04 PM

Had a little time to stick in the 5642s tonight. Powered it up, and got a faint line on the raster :)

The line faded out after about 10 seconds of play. Shut it down, power it up, same thing. I've got 2.5 kV to the picture tube at this point, and I don't hear the horizontal oscillator running. Hm.

jr_tech 08-13-2013 08:53 PM

How do the filaments of the two that you removed ohm out? are they *both* open?
jr

Kamakiri 08-14-2013 05:52 AM

Hm, good question. I'll check later today. My only concern is that when I removed the NOS tubes out of the boxes, the glass on the single wire end on each was broken, only about 1mm worth, and not into the vacuum portion of the tube. Still....

I always saw those tubes packed real well. A GT sized carton and the tube wrapped in Kimpack .
