Doo Mont RA-108
Nice looking set, is this the dreaded 19AP4 tube?
I'm guessing this is in Richmond VA? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-1949-Dum...QQcmdZViewItem |
Yes, that would be a 19AP4. No booster on the CRT which is a good sign, but easily removed. I LOVE old Dumonts and this one is only a few hours from me. What I dont like is the size and weight and the fact that I really dont have the room. I would consider losing a piece of furniture to have this set which is probably an easy restore, or may work as is with little work. These sets are tough as nails and this one was kept in a living room. It looks super clean and unmolested. Original owners probably would not have kept it around all these years if it was worn out and useless. Possibly though they got older and couldnt lift the ton of television. The RA-108 looks a bit smaller than the 109 I once owned. The weight and size was the reason I got rid of that one. And the cabinet veneer was rough.
Man! Will somebody come take this 1959 24" Zenith Space Command out of my kitchen so I can have room for this beast???? Also, I could swear there is a raster on this set but the seller says he cant get it to "light". Looks lit to me. Nice and bright which would be a good sign... |

I'm the one who has that TV set- if you think you know what year it is, then you can argue that point with the 85 year old lady that owns it, who said she bought it in the late 1940's. Good luck with that- it would not be a mannerly, intelligent thing to do. I'm have not researched it, so I'm going by what the owner told me. I surely am not going to contradict some elderly person in their own home, and get in an argument with them, over the age of their old TV set. You need to look at the big picture once in a while. Don't sweat the little stuff so much. On the tube replacement fix, her son runs an electronics repair shop at that location, behind their home, for the past 30 years now. I'm sure he knows what is wrong with the set- but he doesn't want to be bothered with it. If you want to debate that point with him, again- have at it- but I firmly believe his diagnosis will be correct- having watched him repair 4 vintage tape players for me in about 30 minutes one day- and he's done about 20+ repairs or more for me, in the past 6 months or so. The man is the most highly skilled electronics tech I have ever met in my life, and routinely diagnoses problems down to the component level- he's not a "board changer". I would bet money, he's more adept at repairing these things, than most- your comments are surely not appreciated as to him having "no idea". He's an EXPERT. No need to jump to hasty conclusions ! Not everyone selling an old TV set is unknowledgeable, and there's no need to be so suspicious all the time. Esp. in this case, where the Ebay feedback, is stellar. What's the problem ? Having said that, I put the set on the TV swap forum here. They actually have TWO sets, they have another old set with a metal frame, I believe that one is an RCA. They want to get rid of both. These people are getting up in age and just want to clean out their home. |

I personally can not accept lack of research as an excuse for not knowing what DECADE a 20th century item is from at least to a certain degree. Especially with the idea that you are internet literate (if you will) in mind. It wouldnt take a lot of research. Really all this is a stupid waste of time and still all matters of opinion. I have every right to advise someone to be careful with anything that is NOT what it is said to be. If you are interested in what we are here for, then welcome aboard. If you came here to sell that is OK too but if you make a mistake in identifying your product please don't fall apart if someone remarks on it TO SOMEBODY ELSE. Sorry to steam you as I did make some skeptical remarks. It may have all been different if your ad said OLD CLASSIC TELEVISION FOR SALE or something similar. |
That set is from the 1960's no doubt...the woman is probably senile.

Good looking Philco Golden Grid

Those golden grid chassis are a little cramped, but they produce a helluva picture with no retrace lines!

Not worth a fortune but probably would be easy to repair and VERY reliable. Sets like this that old folks have hung on to are usually very well taken care of and were only put to the side when they eventually upgraded to color. So the set was probably working fine when stored away and often will come back to life with very little trouble. It would be nice to see someone give this handsome set a good home. They don't make em like that anymore.....

An interesting GE in Cali
Never seen this concept before. A optional cabinet for a portable to slip in to. All is there and working...sort of. Not mine. Just fascinated by it.

1949 Crosley with Colordaptor Color Wheel
1 Attachment(s)
This is a gem to see. How does this thing work with the odd oar-paddle dividers between the color segments? Every other wheels I have seen have continuous color segments. A whole lot 'o black-out between fields.
And it appears to work. Any AK bidders? Dave A |
1950'ish Motorola Guts

I'm guessing the cabinet now houses a fishtank or plasma. :tears:
Oh well, nice clean chassis and tube if you need it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorola-Black-a...QQcmdZViewItem |
Darn, I'm NEVER close enough to pick up anything. That is a SUPER clean chassis, almost unused looking. I think that chassis would go in my Model 17T13 or 17T8. One of my Motorolas works but it would be nice to shove this in the more battered of my two sets. Might be a plug and play. The really cool thing is this Ebay set has a power transformer it seems where both of mine have the stupid selenium rectifiers. This example is probably a few years older than mine. Probably 1950 or so.....

Grandma's Setchell-Carlson B&W TV set in the family photo album
2 Attachment(s)
Sometime at Christmas at Grandma's in the 50's and early 60's. I'm pretty sure that the TV set (partially visible in both pictures) was the Setchell-Carlson that had continious tuning channels 2 thru 6 (VHF low) and 7 thru 13 (VHF high). A ring knob was used to select VHF low or high. Not sure why grandma looks unhappy, maybe the TV needed service? :D
|
Another old one not far from here. I thought I'd pass it on to you guys in case someone needs it.
