Only problem is the guy doesn't seem to be too motivated (or care) to respond. I've sent him a couple emails and he hasn't responded. There was a phone number I called. Guy didn't seem to be too interested in talking about it but said he'd send some photos, which he hasn't. Haven't been able to get ahold of him since.:scratch2:

Description:
Wow nothing like taking a leap back in time. It is amazing how far televisions have come!!! This is a nice vintage piece of history. It is a 1953 Zenith Television set in a metal/wood console.
When I first brought it home this week....I plugged it in...it powered up and I got sound AND picture. The next day when I turned it on to show a friend, all I can seem to get is the lighted screen. I cannot see picture or sound. So....don't know what that means. I'm too chicken to wiggle anything in the back of the TV as I don't know what I'd damage if I did try. I did not hook up an Antenna so that may be why there was no picture. I am not sure. This TV appears to have NEVER left the Denver area. There is a sticker on the back from the original Denver store that sold it. The first 7 pictures are all of the TV.

The Turntable and stereo I don't know anything about either. The power cord in the pack is damaged too much to try to plug into an outlet. So...don't know if this would work or not if it was repaired. Last 4 pictures are of the Stereo. Sticker on the inside says it is from Wards. This unit looks like it is in pretty rough shape....maybe all it's good for are parts. You decide.

Man, I have often wondered where all of those old testers went. Seems like they used to be in every drug store you went in. I don't know what the connection between tubes and drugs is but thats where I remember them. As kids we liked playing with all of the switches. When I got a little older I got to carry bags of tubes to the store for the free test. They kept the stock locked in the bottom. To this day I need a tester capable of testing ALL types of radio and TV tubes. I have two now and can test most tubes but there on my older set up there is a socket but no settings for the old 1930's 78, 80, ect..My later Hickok does not have that socket but DOES have the sockets for the later Compactrons which I seldom fool with. This old industrial job probably will test anything. Its just too big for my small space on Earth....

Brazilian President Getulio Vargas ( 1882/1954 ) had EXACTLY that same set... luckily, the family preserved his TV in the 40 years following his death, and it now sits on the "Museum of the Republic" in Rio de Janeiro, along with other belongings of the most important Brazilian President of all time.

That last one looks like a possible "plug and play". Thats a phenomenon I have discovered in collecting old tv's. Once in a while you find that set that was well taken care of and above all more than likely never left dormant for so many years that the capacitors didnt get too far out of whack! You get it home and do a "slow warm" with your 100 watt light bulb rig and the old thing fires right up.

Dormancy factor is a key factor I believe. My two best working originals I have owned since the early 80's. One at least I know that a fellow then in his 60's kept and used regularly until my purchase. Thats the Sparton. The other I'm not sure of previous owners but I do know that it was used regularly enough to earn it a crt booster. This is my 56 Philco that I used regularly as a teenager. $10 and working in 1983 and working ever since. So both sets up to this day have never gone with zero use, only ocasional use. By now the Phico's poor veteran 21ZP4B is getting a little dim but still well watchable after several minutes of play.

I firmly believe that the occasional use is the key, like vitamins and exercise to the human body. Really if you think about it a lot of stuff works like that. What about cars? Let one sit, next thing you know it is a clunker.

That Ansley is UGLY but very interesting. Anyone ever heard of Ansley? Not I.
To me the set looks very commercial/industrial if you will, almost military. Certainly not the more typical furniture look of console sets. I wonder if thats one of those sets designed for a hospital or motel room...

I have an Ansley radio, a small chairside with built in phonograph, prewar. I have seen another Ansley from the same era. They were built in NJ and seem to be reasonably well made.

Huge Curtis Mathes combo, it says 1952, but it's more like 1962. It's in good condition though, there's even a picture of it working.

Might even be 1972.... no one was making rectangular CRTs in 1962.

I am not sure about that. To the best of my knowledge, truly rectangular CRTs started to come off the assembly lines in 1960.
