That model Curtis Mathes combo on ebay is in my Curtis Mathes brochure 1962: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...68&postcount=7
It's the middle picture on the bottom, "The Fountainbleau".

Interesting older b/w set on craigslist, not sure what it is but I like the cabinet: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/clt/411593925.html

That C/M is "color convertible"? Does that mean they could substitute a color chassis for the monochrome?

It sure looks like a Sentinel to me, and if so, woe unto anybody who takes pity on it: if those holes have no shafts protruding it's because there's a chassis missing.

Adam 09-05-2007 02:19 PM

There's a picture of the back showing the chassis, the chassis does look similar to that Sentinel, but if it's the same model it does appear to be missing that 2nd chassis that's mounted upsidedown.

That suitcase one might be the only one I've seen yet with all the knobs, the back, and the antenna.

jpdylon 09-06-2007 11:03 PM

I saw that one. Looks as though the CRT might be full of air? or is that rubber gasket goo?

Eric H 09-06-2007 11:08 PM

It's rubber goo, I had a Crosley with the same problem.

What is with the controls at the top marked "Register"?

jpdylon 09-06-2007 11:12 PM

strange. Thought they were remote sensors like the flashmatic at first.

Didn't even notice that.

David Roper 09-06-2007 11:52 PM

It's goo.

Steve K 09-07-2007 12:23 AM

Eric:

The left upper control is the Tone Register which is just a tone control. The other one is a Screen Register which is basically what Zenith used on later sets called a Picture control which is a sharpness adjustment. I believe that these designations were just used on the '54 models.

Back in the 80s when I needed room I would bust up a few sets. I cant do it anymore, not to a vintage set at least. I even kind of hate letting go of more recent sets like my familys 1983 Sears that served without missing a beat for over 20 years. Now the picure suddenly gets blurry after about 20 min. of perfect play time. I don't know much about solid state repair so the 27" floormodel continues to take up a lot of space in my living room. Eventually I must make a decision. Scrap or repair?? Pay to have repaired might work.
