As far as old photo's that bring the past to life, it doesn't get much better than this! These were actually taken around 1954 and a few years thereafter. It's incredibly uncommon, but pictures taken as color slides were often in amazingly clear quality.

Yep. If you search eBay for "old tv photo", you'll find lots of pictures that have been listed over and over.

Great pictures, I'm almost certain the top set is a Sonora like this one.

I'm pretty sure it's not against their rules. Search for 'vintage nude photo' and you'll find over 5,000 listings. I think you need to verify you age before they show up though.

However, I did notice that the TV the model is in front of looks like a DuMont (note the continuous tuner dial, which indicates that the set has the DuMont Inputuner), with either a UHF converter or a booster by Regency atop the cabinet.

Yes nudity is not even really relevant here historically if you think about it. Even though today television is among today's preferred mediums for private indulgence in pornography, this was not always the case. In the early days of television which we tend to focus on, "blue movies" or "skin flicks" were projected onto a screen in a back room somewhere more often than not. The sixties saw the ruin of our grand old theaters and drive-ins, which often converted to XXX in order to stay in business (for a while).

I think things were better when "adult" material or any hint of it was by and large hidden. It was there if you wanted it, but like feminine itch and male enhancement products, I see no need to advertise on television.:no: Word of mouth (no pun), or unfortunately the Internet, sells these products just fine.:scratch2: It's sort of cool to have old sets and know that none of this modern day sex garbage was not relayed through them. :thmbsp:

I agree that VK isn't for nudity. But I don't find it offensive either. As I recall the post that initiated this discussion was about the identity of a TV, possibly a DuMont. There was no posting of a nude, only a warning that the link would take you to a photograph of a TV, that contained nudity.

Although I used to think TV in the late forties to early fifties was rather puritanical; after watching "Topper" episodes I was surprised to see how riské
they are.

Found a few more photos from the family album, here my grandma next to her Stromberg Carlson TV set. I remember that this set had two bands, channels 2-6 and the other 7-13, and it was continous tuning in those bands.

Anyway, here is a picture that a guy sent me by email some time ago. It is him sometime in the late 60's with a Invictus TV set on top a record player. I have a TV of this same model and he was trying to persuade me to sell it to him, because he wanted to recreate this photo.

Here's a great one in 3-D! To see it in depth, just slightly cross your eyes until you see THREE images. Concentrate and focus on the middle image and it should pop into depth.

On the slide mount is written, "Sis. Taken Christmas week, 1956," it is a wonderful 1950s tableau with the "roundie" television and plastic cover over the chair. Since there is light coming through the window, it's not late enough for primetime, so the program of children dressed in their best (probably singing Christmas songs), is likely to be a local broadcast. Not only a great slice of Americana, but an impressive (or lucky) exposure on ASA 10 Kodachrome.

Fun stuff! Tip: once you are focused on the center 3D image, you can move your hands up like blinders to block the left and right peripheral images.

Great! I used to do the cross-eyed 3-D thing, can still do it. Kinda headachey though, if you do it too long. Our mammas used to tell us not to cross our eyes, they'd get stuck that way! Or put beans up our nose.

That is nice to see. I tried looking at it "wall-eyed" (the opposite of cross-eyed; basically, letting your eyes drift the other direction as if focusing on a distant object), and the 3-D effect did not work. It probably would if I copied and edited the picture to reverse the two halves.

I have a few TVs in 3D here http://www.wa2ise.com/3d.html and a whole bunch of radios. Sometimes someone on ebay will take multiple pictures, and create a pair that can be made to do 3D.

Not a black and white TV, but to "me" it's MY old TV and loved it till I killed it (I was a curious kid when I was young and sadly didn't know any better).

One from the 60's shows a Philips set. The other is obviously from the 50's, with a TV that I couldn't identify:

resembles a Capehart we used to have. It was the first TV I remember seeing.

My mother and father (on floor), each with their first sets. Nice Emerson radio on top on my Dad's set.

Ha! My Mom's family is Italian, and was living in Northern NJ (right outside NYC) back in the good, old days. Her father, and his brothers were - how do I put this? . . . AH!!! Worked in the "Waste Management" business. :bash:

Well, he really worked for Ballentine and Pabst breweries in Newark, NJ - long gone now. He did Union "stuff." We never KNEW for sure, but in the 50's\60's when you had nice stuff like that and did not even have a high school education - I mean . . . come on! "It fell off the back of a truck!"

That radio is an Emerson 520, right? I am on the hunt for one. Seen a few on eBay unrestored going for $200 +

My father thinks his brother still has their original one.

I'm kind of curious about what kind of set is in this picture of my mom from May 1961. The other pic is of me, probably in 1985, in front of what I believe was a 1981 Sony Trinitron console. This set was passed on to my grandmother and used until the CRT went weak and was junked in 1999 by yours truly to make it easier to get to the dumpster.
