Hello everyone! I am glad I found this site!, I have been in the hobby of vintage color TV's since about 1990, my first set was an RCA CTC-12 with remote I bought at a yard sale for $15! I also recently picked up the RCA CTC-20 form EBAY with the busted CRT. That set needed ALOT of work, but I got going! I put in a new 21FJP22 tube in it, (sorry about that safety glass thing Doug!) and discoverd that I had to replace all the power supply filters, and redo the vertical circuitry. Well, here are pics of some of my sets, including the aforementioned CTC-20, after I got it going. The photo itself is kinda fuzzy. Also an early CTC-12, and a 1966 Packard Bell with remote. Will post more pics of my sets when I get the Chance!-Robert

Welcome aboard Robert. Good going. I like that second RCA. The third pic has to go in the "Rectangular and SS color TV forum" though. We only do roundies in here.

Ahh, I see, I will keep that in mind. That TV in the middle is my CTC-12 (not the one I bought at the yard sale), kinda odd that it seems to have a 1950's style cabinet. It is super clean. I was amazed when I took the back cover off, and noticed the only tubes that were ever replaced were the damper and vertical output tube! All the other ones appear to have 1962 date codes on them.

I really like that 12 of your's. I have a CTC-16E that is in a similar cabinet style that I haven't restored yet that I like the style of too, but yours looks to be in much better shape on the finish. This one of mine is the only color TV yet that I've gotten with what look like factory installed castors.

Thanks Everyone for the support, you guys have been great! For those interested in the Packard Bell, ( my favorite brand, a bit of L.A. bias I suppose!) I will post more detail pics of it in the rectangular forum, (Carmine, check it out!). I also have a round screen Packard Bell with a similar chassis I will post soon, on this one. I got TV.'s pretty much scattered everywhere. If you want to see more detail pics of the CTC-20, or the CTC-12, (chassis, etc..) please let me know! Oh yeah, Rob, I like your CTC-16E! kinda wierd that RCA still used the old style cabinets that late. Hmmm, mine does not have the casters though.....-Robert

Welcome aboard and love your tv's! I own a CTC12 also which is in a combo unit which i'm in the process of restoring. I got the stereo portion restored already and it plays great. The radio is accessable thru the drop down door in the front and the turntable and controls thru the top left. As soon as i locate a schematic for the tv i will begin restoration on it. Luckily, even though the crt has a halo it tests as new as it was replaced in the 70's with a new, not rebuilt Sylvania tube. I'm posting a pic of it for those of you who havent seen this particular model before. The pic i have was the one from the auction i won it from on ebay. It looks better than the pic and doesnt have a scratch on it. I like your Packard Bell also. It would be nice to see a picture of it and the CTC12 working. I heard that Packard Bell color tv's produced an excellent picture.

Heres a pic of my RCA CTC12 combo. One thing about this style combo unit is that it doesnt take up as much room as some of the others i've seen. Hope you like!

That's a beautiful CTC-12. I don't recall ever seeing that model before. It almost looks like a custom cabinet. Reminds me of a 40's cabinet with the flip down door and burl wood Thanks for posting the picture.

Tony, very sharp looking set. Since you brought up CTC12 schematic, I do infact have a copy of one now. didnt have one back when you sold me the ctc22. I will send you a copy of it if you like.

The schematic would be great! Normally on something this new i could go without one but in this case...the lytics have been "modified" by someone who did a very poor job. I did check for any short potential and powered it up with a variac. Although none of the lytics got warm, it had a nasty case of the hum bars which was no surprise concidering it was last fired up in the 70's until the flyback went south. I replaced the flyback with a new one i got from Moyers. The good news is that it had a good full sized raster with fantastic color, video, sound and sharpness despite the bad lytics. Only other thing that was messed up was the wafer that attaches to the back of the VHF tuner that switches the UHF tuner on and off. I'll have to get one as the original one is beyond repair. I just bought new shunt regulator, HV rect, horizontal and damper tubes. I guess next will be new 6GH8's :D I have most of the caps for this one but need a schematic just to double check that the previous repair guy didnt pull a bad switch with some of the values. One example of the crappy repair was that instead of mounting one lytic the proper way, he ran leads out and taped the lytic to the side of one of the can's:uzi: So you can see where i'm comming from. I hope to gets some pics taken soon of this one working and some of my other sets and share with you guys. My collection is mostly made up of electrostatic and roundie b/w sets including a Zenith porthole combo. a 1948 RCA combo and a few motorola's, but i also have four predicta's. I also have a house full of old radios, record players and victrolas.

Thanks for the compliment and I know what you mean about this cabinet style. It was the first one i ever saw like this also with the flip out radio and sort of danish style cabinet. I had a similar one as a kid but was the CTC20 version but it had a cabinet that looked almost like the german consoles as far as its finish and cabinet style. It had the same arrangement as this one with the tv on the right and stereo on the left. It had a sliding door on the top sort of like the maggies instead of a lift up lid. I always wanted another roundie color combo so when this one came up and was in driving distance i snatched it up. I drove almost 300 miles for it but was well worth it when i saw how nice it was. Luckily i got it cheap so the extra expense it took to go get it was well worth it. I hope to stumble across a brochure or ad for this model one of these days to see how much it cost originally and get other imformation on it. I did find several dates stamped inside ranging between January and Febuary 1963.

Thanks again Robert for posting pics of your CTC12 as i havent found very many pics of this particular model. I'm looking forward to your future postings as i have likewise with Doug, Dwight and the rest of the gangs collections here in the tv forums.

Hello Steve awesome TV! does it have a CTC-16 or the CTC20 chassis? Always good to find another LA area collector! I got some working pics of the Packard Bell, and of the CTC-12, will post them this weekend. Tony, if you are looking for the Schematic, it is SAMS 640-3 I think. I got one, if you want, I can photocopy it for you. Also, if anyone needs flybacks in the future, I got close to several hundred from the 1940's, to early 1970's, and yes, I do have the 112820 for the CTC-12, if you ever need it again! :-) I like your CTC-12!, Nice Combo!-Robert

That RCA is really cool! The cabinet kinda reminds me of my Curtis Mathes roundie... but yours has more elegance than mine.

I was thinking the same thing the first time you posted your Curtis Mathis. The thing i like about yours is the fact that everything on yours is accessed from the front so no need to move anything on top when you want to play the stereo. Yours might be a tiny bit plainer than mine but still is a nice set to say the least. It isnt that often you stumble across a roundie Curtis Mathes either especially a combo which makes it even more special.

BTW: I have the wooden version of the Sentenel you have sitting beside your Curtis Mathes. Mine was a pain to restore but is a fun little set once working properly. I was amazed that for such an early set that mine doesnt produce the infamous retrace line problem like some of the later sets had. It picks up well on antenna also.

That's interesting. It must be a late model offering in the 16 series since it shares almost the same faceplate and knob setup of the CTC-20 I have. I have a set with the control panel like yours that is the last one I brought home and haven't had the back off. I was not sure what it was because of the slight difference to the CTC-20 but I realize now it is the same as yours. Thanx for clearing that up.

Steve! The two sets are practically identical! I noticed on mine when I took the back off, you can see some tiny indentations on the bottom of the cabinet for what appears to me that were supposed to be drilled for a CTC-16, but never actually were! Wierd! Ilike the Danish moderne look, maybe it WAS popular in LA.............-Robert

No problem, I have been quite busy myself. I am starting to tackle two Chromacolor hybrid portables I bought from Doug Harland. They got here in good shape, except one had a 6LF6 that got dislodged from its socket and broke inside the TV, it wish it could have been a a cheaper tube that broke! Oh well, I got a bunch of those tubes anyways. I also have a 23DC14 Chromacolor hybrid console in my living room, that thing plays awesome, it looks almost brand new, has a razor sharp picture. Best $20 I ever spent! (for the console!)-Robert
