That's most definitely a CTC 9 Anniversary model. It's potentially a great performer. See attached photo of my Anniversary Model set. Bob.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the crt is the original RCA tube (21CYP22). It is an RCA tube, that much is still printed on the socket. While working on the set I took a good look at the tube and couldn't find the number. I'm thinking maybe it was stamped on the neck and was removed by accident at some point. I saw no evidence that the tube had ever been replaced. It was a very lazy tube and took a long time to come around when I first began this project. I was concerned that I would need to locate a replacement, but once it woke up...there was just no stopping it. Bob

That set is not far from me, i was gonna take a chance at it, but it seems the seller has ended the listing early.

The 21CYP22A, a glass tube, would have the dual high voltage connectors, with a resistor between them, on the bell of the tube.

YES: This set has the CTC-9 chassis, Like my 59 Boswell that I am having snaking problems with. Someone could have gotten it for 150.00, before it was removed. chipper

It is a freaking lot to pay and I will have to sell a couple of things on the bay to make up for it...but I have been wanting one of these sets for a long, long time. :banana::yes:

Congrrats! I was considering bidding but then when I looked at the condition of the top of the cabinet and decided to take a pass.
Does anyone know for sure if this set has a real veneer cabinet, or is it one of those photographic fake woodgrain finishes??????

Those photo finishes are so hard to repair. However, I have an artist friend and I am going to have him see if he can replicate the damaged areas on my CTC5, using tiny artist paint brushes and paint the missing areas to match. Then I will overlay with clear coat until the surface is level and then spray a coat of acrylic lacquer over the entire cabinet so it all matches. If it works out I will report on it here on AK. If the technique is a flop, then I wont waste anyones time telling about it.

I can tell you for sure that it is a photofinish on the "Anniversary" model set. Lucky for me that my set (also the "Anniversary" model) was in fairly good condition. When I first got the set I was considering trying to redo the finish but after some heavy duty compounding, polishing, and filling in the light spots with a dark wood color marker, the end result was quite acceptable.

Well, there is no question that it will be a challenge. I have been looking into wood veneers that I may have to use to bring that back. I know it would be preferable to keep the photo finish but this to too grand of a lady to let her look so rough.

I will just have to see once I can actually lay my own eyes on it. Snapshots rarely show things accurately, but that being said...the top is a mess.

And it is not the end of the world if there is a veneer of nice wood that somewhat replicates that of the original finish. While it would not be original, it would be preferable to the current look of a trashed up top.

I hope, because of the unstable weather, you have a closed van. Curious if you figured in the current outrageous price of gas and other expenses in making the trip from Okla.City to Atlanta when you made your final bid? Have a safe trip and take some rest breaks.

How do you get from OK city to 70 miles north of Atlanta in only 12 hours? I need to know that route. I live in Jackson TN and I have family in Oklahoma. It is a good 8 hours from Memphis to Oklahoma city. That trip will be more like 14 to 15 hours one way. Assuming you go through Chattanooga TN, and you don't stop for food. You can take 78 out of Memphis, but it will make the trip about 18 hours long, I don't care what mapquest says. Unless you know a good short cut. :)

Well, we will see on the trip time. Nothing is for sure until you are actually on the road.

I made it to Denver in 9 hours with a 1 hour stop. But I do drive 80-85 on average and the radar det is my best buddy on the road. :D

But even then, I will be traveling through some pretty country and one of my favorite sayings is "the journey IS the destination.":smoke:

I do indeed have a closed van, a 2008 Toyota Sienna and it gets pretty good mileage. It only took 3 20 gallon tanks to go to Denver, play around and come back and the milelage is not too much worse going to Ellijay, GA. But I did figure the gas price at $3.50 per gallon to give myself some cushion. I won't be able to pick up the set until April so I hope the gas prices are too much higher than that at that time. :eek:

I will take a rest break or two and I have a friend going with me so we can tag team the driving.

I am looking forward to rescuing this sweet ol set.

I would keep regular correspondence with the seller so that he won't toss it.

I've had this happen to me twice. I purchased something on ebay and explained to the seller that I couldn't pick it up for at least 3 weeks. He said that was ok and I thought that was that. sure enough when I went to go get it it had either been tossed out by his wife tired of waiting or someone else had offered him more for it in the meantime.

In both cases I got my money back, but you can still never be too sure

This is a true possibility. But I don't think there are too many opportunities of insane people paying that amount for that set. :D

And hopefully, since the seller has a good feedback rating, that is some sort of indication. He has been in contact with me and I will be using ***pal to pay for it giving me some protection.

I do hope it all goes smooth. Just out of curiosity, I listed it on UShip.com to see if anyone who is coming my way may want to make some bucks by picking it up. I did this with a Zenith Chromacolor II out of CA for the cost of gas and it worked...so this may save me a drive. :yes:

I really want to go back to Denver over Atlanta. I am from Panama City, FL and have seen the South pretty well. I didn't get to spend enough time in Denver checking out all the railroads, etc.

I hated to do it but after email & voicemail communication from the seller, I felt there was something terribly wrong.

I may be wrong but I felt that I was about to lose a lot of money and have nothing to show for it.

My gut instincts are often correct enough for me to trust them and sadly I walked away from this set.:tears:

I'm sorry to hear that. If there are transactions like this sometimes its best to either give a small down payment in order to secure what you've bought, then give the rest in cash later.

Give it some patience, you'll get one.

Think you did the right thing. That was simply too far to go, in time & money only to be disappointed...

Interesting to note the only thing that seller currently has up is a book: "Handwriting Analysis and Detection of Deception." Hmmmm.....

I know many of you have been down this kind of road a time or two and I am really glad there is a place that I can go and know there are people who understand the passion of collecting and saving these sets and the pitfalls that sometimes go with the insanity.

Last time turned on was 1976, worked then, but I could not stand the round picture after getting a new solid state quasar.
Have the remote, could not stand using it because it was so slow.
