Anybody here Collect Boombox?

Only Cassette preferred w/radio of course

No CD Boombox's am I interested in.

I am looking for any and all boombox's with large woofers 6 inch or better,
& at least 8 batteries operation,

Stereo or Mono in operation, stereo preferred and will accept some mono's

one Piece preferred or, 3 - piece considered - depending upon the model.

I have 2 sony cfs d7 boomboxes and a extreemly mint sony cfd 5 boombox.

The cfd 5 was the first cd boombox so I think it is as collectable as any boombox.

ok the cfd 5 is a first cd bbx that may be as I dont know but it has been my experience that one must hear these cd boombox's to ascertain as to whether or not they sound good to one's ear as compared to earlier Cassette bbx's
of which had much more power and better speaker arrangement than the newer cd bbx's.

I wish you could post a picture of the models that you are refferring to ?

and the very kool sony cfd 5 - mine was made in 1985.

10.9 watts per channel rms - both channels driven at the same time.

has a 48 watt power supply and detachable aluminum honeycomb apm speakers.
first boombox with a built in cd player.
touch plate style feather touch logic controled auto reverse cassette deck.
cassette deck has blank skip and music search - quick reverse and can record on metal tape.
dolby b - cd syncro recording.
5 band eq

I bet it cost a small fortune in 1985.

I have a couple big Lasonic boom boxes . One is the famous TRC 931 and looks like it was hardly used . Another slightly smaller silver Lasonic i got from an older lady who used it but never moved it around so its almost new looking . Its got a pretty powerfull amp in it . Its loud ! Then i do have a 90`s JVC with a CD player lid on top . Its got a strange built in sub woofer that sounds better than any other box of its type . Roring deep bass .

a buddy of mine dale has a 1 year old sony boombox with a sub - kinda wierd looking - big - red and and basic.

am/fm - cd - cassette - aux in - remote control.

cost a little over 100 bucks at fred meyers

it sounds really good

I bet the bose wave music system is the ultimate boom box - stereo - battery portable with am/fm and cd.
Not the wave radio - the big one.

I've lost count of my boomboxes, and largely stopped buying any. I have something around 100 of them, almost all of them somewhat rare and/or "collectible" ones (and in some cases, multiples of those).

Last night alone, I walked away from a Sharp GF-9696, two Sharp GF-575s, and several other ones that weren't bad. Oh, and after some struggle I walked away from a Marantz PMS-7000, too, since I already have several of them (along with several 8000s, too, and one 6000).

Just too many good boomboxes around my "hunting grounds" for me to keep buying any more. I'll still grab any more JVC M90s I find, though; I only have two, and they are just TOO nice and TOO rare --not to mention TOO valuable in the marketplace-- to pass up! :D

I am looking for the Model LASONIC LPC-85 and a few other's ....

Presently I have 2 of the Lasonic trc-931's the rounded corner one's AND one of them is Completely NEW IN THE BOX except for being opened and taken out an looked at an such .... and the onther one of these is as new and as good as one could have one of these as all of it works - except that I dont have the box for that one ....

I think the newer ones have cd.
No cd - no big deal as every one uses a ipod these days.

How does the bose sound compared to your other boomboxes ?

I bet the bose blows them away.

If it has a CD in it ... I look Elsewhere - Not-interested.

Bose has a different sound to it unlike other " boombox's "

Bose Sound is a PRESENCE unlike a boombox throwing the sound outward.

Up close the Bose sound's great but far away you cannot tell the difference between a Bose and a Boombox

Except for the the difference in sound in the Higher frequencies between these different box's

and the fact that Low Bass sound, doesnt have a presence far away coming from a small boombox such as a Bose AW1

Again the difference between A Boombox and a Bose interpretation of a boombox it's all about presence I think

Bose sound's great up close and in a enclosed area but not outside, where its bass presence is lost,

yes you can hear this up close but move away and it's just another noise maker wannbe

a Boombox with it's directly forward firing speakers ... well you know where its sound is going --- but with the bose ....

you make it sound like a cd player ruins a boombox - wow.

So the ultimate boombox has a turntable built in - right ?

My mom had a boombox with a built in turntable - sounded okay - I wish she still had it I would talk her out of it.

My cfd 5 sounds great and it has a cd player.

My cfd 5 will be a collectors item if i ever get the last belt for the cassette deck - I just need to order the belt.

It works okay with the old belt but gets stuck once in great while.
I just have to assist it a little with a finger to one of the flywheels.

Sony cfd 5 = first boombox ever with a cd player = collectors item.
not to mention its unusual speakers.

So you are saying the bose does not have the volume or output compared to a powerfull boombox ?

Seems like the bose would have a lot more engineering put into its speaker system than 95 percent of all boomboxes ever made.

The bose has the acoustic waveguide and all the dsp to go along with it.

I would not know as I do not own one of the big bose units like yours but I do own a bose sound dock portable.
It sounds amazing for its size.

Millions and millions of people listen to ipods in various way's every day so they can not sound that bad.

yes a cd player does NOT go well in a boombox as a cd is like a record as it needs tracking and it can skip if bumped and or if it's dirty or scratched-up

unlike a cassette which cannot skip - yes there is the wow & flutter issue and if you have to shake one a heck of a LOT more than a cd to make is sound bad momentarily BUT it wont lose its place ....

only drawback to a cassette is finding songs on it is slower but then i listen all the way through - so no issue ...

boombox with a turntable built-in same issue as above nice idea but dont try to carry one while playing a record ...

only place a cd will sound good is in a STATIONARY home deck no possible of it being moved or skipping and therefore loss of tracking or sound , yadda yadda yadda

No I am saying that the Stereo sound coming from one of these sounds terrific up close and personal and can get very loud but the stereo seperation can get muddied if one tries to listen to a BOSE at a distance ,,,

of say more that about 10 feet or so where as a boombox really shines here with the seperation of left and right music still as a portable is just that portable like to be able to be carried outside and played out there without a line cord.

THIS is the REAL test of a True Boombox, anybody can plug into the wall outlet to get power but then its BECOMES a home based unit and well i thinks u could get this picture

yes they all have their ears plugged up and and cannot hear you and or lost in whatever they are listening to therefore they forget what they are doing because of lost in whatever and or dont repsond in a normal human being way - unplugged that is

I know about this phenomenon I see it every day in my workplace ...

I say if you are going to listen to music then lets hear it!

I dont Believe that many People know that Bose made a Boombox that can be Carried around working on Battery Power.
