RCA CTC7? Great picture, it has the aluminum tree and everything appears to look about late 50s - early60s. The guy's house I picked up my Zenith roundie from recently was similar in appearance (all furniture from the same era) - but the big new 40" crt set they got to replace the Zenith looked out of place among all the late 50s stuff.

Absolutely awesome!

My breezeway (official retro room) is about 1/10th of the way there (1957 Emerson 24" ash B&W TV, 2 end tables in matching color, and beige rotary dial phone).

That picture is groovy man! hard to believe it was taken in '07! I wish I could make my house look like that! That light on the ceiling is far out man.

ceebee23 01-17-2009 08:31 PM

the owner has deliberately created this retro look ..i have asked whether the TV works....

Fantastic!

Did you ever see the Formica House at the New York World's Fair?

Talk about Googie....(grin)

Looks like it may be a "TOWNSEND" 21CD890, CTC-7 early.

A Term I've Not Heard in Ages!

"Talk about Googie....(grin)"

That's a word I've not heard/used in awhile!

A couple of years ago, I had to escort a then 25-year-old associate on a business trip out here from the least coast. Given that we had a couple of days of free time before our conference started, I showed her around a bit. Before the trip, she'd not been further west than Indiana. First place I took her when we got to Long Beach? That monument to Googie archetecture... a Norm's Coffee Shop! (For lunch... Alas, our Friday night was spent elsewhere... Friday nights at Norm's are a part of my cherished memories from my teenage days.) I then had to explain what Googie was all about and what it was like growing up in the Southland in the 1960's/1970's as a transplant from the least coast...

Good call Kevin and Adam. I have to agree it's the CTC-7 "Townsend."

How 'bout some more Googie?

For those with the ability to freeview stereo pairs, or have the proper glasses, here's a 3D blast from the past, Tiny Naylor's in Hollywood:

BTW, that living room in the first post is "swellegant" as Mrs. Indian Head says.

Folks, I have just been in contact with the owner of this set.. it works perfectly and was found in the basement of her apartment building in NY in 2000 ready to be trashed!!!

Her husband is a vintage electronics fan and has restored it to full working order.

Indian Head 01-20-2009 04:07 PM

Sounds like a very cool couple. Is their whole house done in mid-century modern?

old_tv_nut 01-20-2009 04:07 PM

Applause!

ceebee23 01-20-2009 04:56 PM

the house is indeed full mid 20th century !! and the TV is part of their collection

it is wonderful that the TV is in full working order and that they rescued it and knew what it was when they saw.

what a great story!! I will see if I can get more details... the owner is going to take some more pictures of the set for us :)

Sandy G 01-20-2009 06:26 PM

Kewl !!

wcarroll 01-21-2009 10:18 AM

Sandy G 01-22-2009 12:42 AM

That would look SO GOOD in my living room...An' it AIN'T "Googie"...(grin)

Indian Head 01-22-2009 05:25 AM

That is a nice looking set anywhere. But the Shag art hanging above it works very well.
