RCA New Vista Model
2 Attachment(s)
Spied this RCA New Vista Model in an antique mall. I can get it for $16.00. Cant see much of it cause as you can tell it is buried. CRT looks to have problem. Cell phone pics and sorry for the quality of them. Any thoughts on this one? Early 60's?
Thanks Dan |
Just go get it! It's only 16 bucks!!
|
Looks like a CTC-15 to me. The CRT probably has cataracts which are really no big deal to fix. At the price, I say grab it!! These are becoming very scarce now.
|
Yeah, I was unable to take it today, was with my boss and no room in his car. I will go get it this weekend. I could not get behind it, to see a model number, so thanks for the input on what it might be.

New Vista's are nice sets. Can't tell from the pics but I'm sure it's worth saving.
One day we're gonna regret not taking those singleboard 80s sets and hybrid portables..... These will be priceless by then. |
those crts are getting hard to come by . Better have Scotty rebuild it asap if you get it . Being he might retire soon and there is no one else that does them .
|
Secure it - give them the money so they don't decide to pitch it!
|
Definitely either a CTC-15, or maybe even a 12. Top of the line one too, with the tuners side-by-side!

Very attractive design. :thmbsp: |
Agreed, I would buy that in a heartbeat. Might take all afternoon to get it out of that place, though! A -12 or -15, and either way it can be a great set.

I myself have an early 70s New Vista 19" tabletop. She still needs work but does produce a somewhat good picture. No cataracts on the CRT and is a hybrid set.

Got it home. And it did take awhile for the staff at the store to remove all the surrounding items, then a path had to be cleared. It is a CTC 15. It does power up, but no raster or sound. Tuner turns but indicator is stuck on 2. A full recap is in its near future, and hopefully I can get the CRT to Hawkeye within the next month. Here are a couple of pics from where it sits now in my heated garage.

I'm glad you rescued it Dan. Thats a nice one and you definately cant beat the price! Keep us posted on it.

This article from Nov '64 looks just like your set

Hi
does the tubes lights up? if yes, the B plus might be out. check the fuse. with time the fuse opens. Check the current at the picture tube socket. it will tell you if the b plus is down |
Yes, the tubes lit up real pretty. But I didnt want to push it anymore than that. I believe this set has been sitting for a long time. I cant wait to get to it more. I will keep all posted as to its progress, real happy that I got it.

Does yours have a Nuvistor on the VHF tuner like mine does?
|
In case that youneed a circuit breaker you could get the originals at
SMC ELECTRONICS |
Yea, those breakers can get flakey, not uncommon to be bad. What a great score you came across though!
And you don't have to have a clone to have a clone chassis! I've also seen those used with 25" versions with pincushion circuitry added. |
Hemingray,, I dont think mine has that?

Grimer, I have that one-my best performing roundie. Mine was a garbage find in the early 90s.

|
Hey Grimer,, cool coincidence!! Andy,, I have not tested the CRT yet, but the way my luck is going lately, I expect it to be bad lol.

GRIMER,
This was our first color set when I was growing up. We had the antique white version. I never knew what happed to ours. Most likely it was junked. My step-father moved to another state. I already had a 1963 RCA home entertainment center "The Abbeville" that was moving with me. I've had the unit for 42 year now. Here the information on your set: "The Cherbourg" 14-G-90-M Here is a mastercrafted all-wood lowboy that will lend a gracious air to homes where French Provincial design is appreciated. Distinctive antiqued ribbon wire grill adds an authentic touch to this 18th century reproduction. In Antiqued Parchment White-finish or Antiqued genuine Fruitwood Cherry veneers and solids. H-30 3/4"; W-46 1/2'; D-27 1/8'. |

Excellent save! I love that cabinet! That's one I haven't seen before, close but not exactly. Very sweet deal, especially for the price!
|
The Crt tested very good in all aspects. So that makes me happy. I cant believe it has taken me 10 months just to get that accomplished, what a year.
|
Other priorities and projects...thanks for the update!
