Yet another CTC-5 in Chicagoland

http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/ele/1081468758.html

They seem to be coming out of the woodwork this year.

zenithfan1 03-20-2009 07:09 PM

I know!!!! I've been trying to get ahold of them since it was posted! I sent 4 emails. It's driving me nuts! I want that set so bad I can taste it, and printed finishes don't taste good. Unless someone here already got it, I call dibbs! Thanks anyways for letting us know:)

Sandy G 03-20-2009 07:14 PM

(sigh)....Why do they ALWAYS gotta be on the "Edge of the Universe" away from me ?

Steve D. 03-20-2009 07:16 PM

Mark,

That is a really clean Aldrich model CTC-5.
And the more rare blonde finish to boot. I hope you can snag it.

-Steve D.

zenithfan1 03-21-2009 12:16 AM

Thanks Steve, I too hope I can snag it. I will hold on to hope until the posting is gone. I've been emailing since it was posted on the 18th. Wish me luck, I can only afford the deals these days.

damen 03-21-2009 01:43 AM

Wow that is a great deal I hope you get it... would be sad to see that go in the garbage Good Luck

Phil Nelson 03-21-2009 12:16 PM

Try offering more than he is asking. It may get his attention. That is a scarce and valuable set, and you would literally be stealing it for $20.

For all you know, a couple of other people may already have made better offers, and he's waiting to see what else comes in.

I bet he would answer my email if I offered $300 plus pickup & shipping at my expense :)

Hens' Teeth!

Those are rare enough, let alone blonde! I think that's the first blonde one I've seen. He either is a collector playing a trick on us, or the set's gone, I'm afraid.

I've already done that. 20 is stealing it.

Eric H 03-21-2009 06:17 PM

I notice some Vinyl and Stereo gear in the picture too, this isn't some clueless Noob offering this, probably a member here playing a prank.

zenithfan1 03-21-2009 07:06 PM

Man, that would suck.

Snade 03-21-2009 07:17 PM

That posting looks very legit and Cicero is known to be one of the best towns in the Chicago area to find older TVs. People that moved there in the 50's stay in the same house for ever.

Good luck Zenithfan snagging this one.

Cheers, Snade

zenithfan1 03-21-2009 07:19 PM

Thanks. It's weird, with what I said and offered him, I can't understand why I get no reply. Even if it's sold, most would have the courtesy to say it's gone.

zenithfan1 03-21-2009 07:24 PM

Damnit all it needs is "fitler capps" too.....

old_tv_nut 03-21-2009 07:27 PM

WELL, you know, if you do get it, and run out of gas on the way up to Kenosha, I can rescue it ... errr, you. :D

jeyurkon 03-21-2009 08:50 PM

You guys take your CTC's too seriously for anyone to mess with you.

Some people are just slow to respond and don't hover over their emails like us.

Wish you luck zenithfan1,

John

bgadow 03-21-2009 09:51 PM

Yes, like John says, easy to forget that some folks only check their email once a week, maybe only once a month! Heck, I've got pages of emails that I'm saving to read later....got some unopened ones from 2002! But none of them have to do with things I have for sale.

Thanks John. Yes, I must admit that I'm pretty "CTC sick":screwy: and guilty as charged for hovering over my emails....:nerd:

zenithfan1 03-23-2009 12:56 PM

Well, it doesn't look good. Still no reply after offering a large sum of money, which I would have paid if they replied. I'll still wait a while but I figured this was also too good to be true. I've been screwed out of the last 4 or so good deals on CL. THe people either flaked on me or didn't hold to what they said they would do.

zenithfan1 03-24-2009 06:47 PM

They never responded just like the last Aldrich that showed up not long ago. I am willing to bet it's gone or trashed. I emailed from a different address too. I sure wish people would take their ads down or say it's gone. It doesn't take that much work or time. I never do that to people. Did anyone here get it and don't want to say? I wouldn't be upset.

zenithfan1 03-25-2009 08:36 PM

I'm officially giving up hope. I still wish they would call but I'm not holding my breath because I would then die. I've emailed enough times to be considered annoying, they're not gonna respond. I hate to let a hot blonde go but sometimes you have to........:tears: Thanks again Jeff for posting. Maybe your luck will bring in another gem like the Wingate one of these days!

jmdocs 03-26-2009 03:42 PM

Well, I don't know what to think. I'm starting to think I'm jinxing these sets. What's that they say about the road to hell being paved with good intentions? But I don't know a better solution in this situation than to let folks know about them.

zenithfan1 03-26-2009 07:01 PM

Hey, it aint your fault, the people posting the stuff are flakes. I can't thank you enough for the Wingate, without you, it would have went into the trash. There looked to be no one else at the sale who would have bought it and none of us knew it was there. Although they looked at me funny for buying it. I was thinking, if you only knew what I know, you'd be fightin' over it instead of gawkin' at me funny. So, please, keep posting them as you find 'em, we'll do the best we can to save 'em.:thmbsp: Thanks again Jeff!

radiotvnut 03-26-2009 08:01 PM

I'm sorry that this deal is probably not going to go anywhere. I've had similar situations dealing with flakes on my local CL and it really burns me up. I think a lot of so called sellers of stuff like this are just "fishing" to see how valuable their stuff is. If someone shows a lot of interest and/or many people respond, the sellers think they have a literal goldmine and back out of the sale. They figure that if they keep it a few more years, it will bring even more $. In short, if you ever want to deal with the nut cases of the world, just go to CL or other local online classified websites.

bgadow 03-26-2009 09:03 PM

I have never, ever, ever seen so many flakes as I've seen on CL. Amazing. I have tried and tried and tried and, with both buying and selling, even giving away, I have yet to have a good transaction. That place just brings them out of the woodwork!

radiotvnut 03-26-2009 10:09 PM

Aside from sellers who drop off the face of the Earth, I've had dealings with those that want a mega fortune for their CRAP and those that want a less than 1 year old 60" HDTV for $25 with a 2 year warranty. And, I won't even try to recall all the fake emails directing me to usedtv.com!

Oldstuff78 03-26-2009 10:33 PM

I have had the same problem with CL. I posted an ad looking for a 1960's Roundie Color set and some guy emails me and tells me he has a couple. Then when I ask for pics, he says he doesn't have a camera and then says he doesn't know if the sets are color.

jeyurkon 03-26-2009 11:14 PM

I thought I'd try my hand at contacting them. This is what I got back.

Sorry, but the craigslist user address you recently mailed ([email protected]) does not seem to be valid. It could be you're trying to respond to a very old posting, or that the user has not requested anonymous email forwarding. Please check the address and try again.
Either it's expired, but then it should have dissappeared, or he didn't set it up to get emails forwarded. That would be a tragedy if he thinks no one is interested.

John

jeyurkon 03-27-2009 09:35 AM

Expired

Today it shows the posting as expired. Guess it must have sold fast and they just weren't polite enough to respond to other queries.

Unless it really was an evil joke.

John

sampson159 03-27-2009 03:48 PM

those craigslist folks are out there! i buy and sell alot and i could write a book about this.i saw that ad and replied also. no response too. seems to me ,if you have an item to sell, you would respond to all. i do. there was a roundie recently
posted at a market close to the house. i inquired about it and the seller was very gracious. he invited me over to see it and negotiate a deal. long story short,he just wanted to talk about his admiral roundie. decent set, needed convergence coil and cataract surgery. nice person, hope he gets it together. just wanted to test the waters. never saw anything older than a ctc 15 or a mid 60s set around here.i guess a ctc 5 would generate lots of interest. i am going to sell my ctc 15 with the white cabinet. i wonder if i get any good response to this one? mark, relax! you got a ctc 9 to restore. remember the 9?
the one from the etf last year? i am still waiting!

newhallone 04-02-2009 07:53 PM

I think peoples spam filters out reponses to the ads. I put a speaker cab on the Craig and this guy emails me for my number and askes questions about it. I reply to him and never hear back. I post it a second time and he emails me again asking for my number and some questions. I reply back and do not hear from him again. I suppose he could be a moron. But odds are it's in the junk folder.

zenithfan1 04-02-2009 09:29 PM

If that's the case, that folder is full. I really wish I knew what happened to that set.
