Ya gotta see it to belive it!
This may take the prize for delusional. He put it on CL in Indianapolis and Philadelphia. Why here in Philly? Do we look that dumb? And was the appraiser from AIG?
http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/clt/1176275390.html Not a dime over $18000 from me. Dave A |
Oh, Prunella...I want some of what HE'S smokin'...
Me too :naughty:
Nice radio, but I see a few problems w/it-I think its MAYBE a $125 set, tops...An' that could be generous.
I agree Sandy, it's really not all that great looking either.
Gotta get me one of those tame appraisers.
Nice, yes; but certainly not worth $25K.
He probably cuts his coke 90/10 before he sells it... |
$300 tops. I have one with all original Cunningham balloons.:naughty:
He wants $25K! Well, people in Hell want icewater, too!
I wonder if the appraiser was kind and paid on a percentage-of-value basis, so he wrote "$250.00", and the seller, with poor eyesight, didn't see the decimal point...
But if that thing actually SELLS for that much, then I have a Stromberg Carlson I'll let you have for ONLY $38,000! :D |
I have one that is near mint w/ original tag that I would be happy to part with for 2% of his price!
I wonder what his apraiser is smoking....
I don't think He's got an appraiser.
He did not say what it appraised for, just that it was appraised.
The appraiser forgot to add the decimal point it was 250.00 not 25000
I have 2 Atwater-Kents, a Model 46 and a 53C, IIRC I paid $35 for the 46 and I got the 53C for free. I've seen many of these in the $100-$200 range.
For $25K, I'd part with every radio, record player, stereo, and TV that I own. And, that would still be more than they're worth.
There are plenty of people out there in the big old world who happily rush in with their opinions without doing any research whatsoever. An evening looking on eBay or here or ARF, etc., would tell him what to list it for. But that would be too easy.

Their reply went something like this: Is that an offer? If not, Mr. Record player expert...haven't you got better things to do with your time than to harass people on Craigslist? Some people just can't stand to hear the truth. They think that just because something is OLD; then, it's PRICELESS! I was told by other members of the household that I was out of line by contacting them if I was not interested and that if I didn't like the price, leave it alone. Maybe I was out of line; but, when sellers pull stupid shit like this without doing the least bit of research (other than what some idiot told them); then, I think the smart comments from people like me are good enough for them. My mother reminded me that I don't like it when people tell me that my stuff if too high. I reminded her that I actually RESEARCH my prices and my prices are usually never carved in stone. When I make up my mind to sell something, that's what I plan on doing. I don't want it here six months from now! I used to know an older radio collector that got off on pissing these high priced junk sellers off. The more pissed off they got, the more he got off on it. Now, let me get on CL so I can knock someone down a peg or two... |
Yeeeahhhh....rriiigggghhhhtttt....
I think as long as it's done politely and is not snarky, there's nothing wrong with it. And if they get snarky back just walk away. I do it now and then when I feel like it, but most of the time it's an offer of info on whatever it is they're selling. Like the 60s solid state console that's advertised as being from the 40s. People rarely get testy in their responses, maybe it's a regional politeness thing. I don't waste time and aggravation on rude people, or spend energy being offended by their responses.

Wow that AK in a kiel table makes this zenith phono look like a bargain!

My folks have the same unit, it was appraised at 200.00-250.00, when they had their stuff insured. Thats a down fire field-coil speaker inside
Hey, come on now...$3500 for a record player that used to play Elvis records:music::music: is a fair price......:D:D:D She must believe that the albums sell in the hundreds of $$:music::music:

I had one here locally last week with a pile of 78s. The ad said she was sure some of them are worth a small fortune. They might be, but more likely 90% of them are worth 50 cents.
