A NICE lookin' CTC-10 , supposedly with a useable tube, AND a JVC U--Matic VCR WITH tapes.

I did NOT miss it.....and by this time tomorrow...ALL of that will belong to ME!!!

Up until a couple of years ago, I had over 1000 UMatic tapes. I now have about 60. I still have a JVC machine similar to the one you just got, but I dont really use it. I have a big Sony Umatic for that.

I used to work in broadcasting, and had access to tons of tapes.

wow both very cools scores, good for you, get plenty pics when its in your hands.

Back in high school, around 1971, we had a B&W videotape machine that the students used for student newscasts during lunchtime. Vaguely remember seeing the set-up, but can't recall if it used reels of tape or if it was some form of giant casette. The tape did go thru a big U shaped head...

Some company probably got a tax write off giving my school this stuff.

Did it somewhat resemble this 5" Sony "portapack" reel to reel? There were also 7" machines. On the larger machines, IIRC the head assembly was rotated 90 degrees from the rather odd "sideways" orientation that was used to save space on the 5" units.

rca2000 05-25-2010 08:36 AM

WHAT did you say??

Did he sell this out from under me?? I have plans to get it after work TODAY!! An "emergency tv run", today to columbus!! I have already made arrangements and all!!

Am I the one who got their "throat cut?? Or, are you all just messin' with me?????

I BETTER NOT have to drive all the way to columbus today after a hot day at work for NOTHING!!!

sampson159 05-25-2010 09:19 AM

randy said he owns it now.gave him more money for it.this jerry guy sounds like a flake.sold him a magnavox with it.this is just the info i got.i would have gotten it for you had i had known.my garage is empty and there is room.
i am looking for a flat chassis zenith myself.i could have saved you a drive by picking it up for you.set it besides the 9 i am holding for mark.randy wont post here anymore for that reason.look at the white roundie incident from last year!

rca2000 05-25-2010 10:27 AM

I have been here at work since 7. NO ONE calle dme before then!! IF the guy called afdter that....i did NOT know, as I am NOT allowed to have my phone in here. It is in the VAN, which I drove for the ONLY purpose , to go and get that tv. I DO have "limited access" to the net here--as I am doing now.

I know it "was his to sell to whomever he wanted"...BUT..when one ADVERTISES something for one price....MAKES A DEAL WITH SOMEONE WHO AGREES TO COME AFTER IT>>. and THEN"renegs" on that deal WITHOUT giving that first person a "reasonable chance" and i mean a DAY or so--NOT 5 MINUTES!! THAT IS SHITTY , DIRTY BUSINESS!!!

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME, IN AS MANY MNTHS, that I got "screwed on a CL deal, first that DA set--that they reneged on selling to me...and now THIS!! yes...I AM MAD!!! I could kick someone in the nuts right now for this!!

zenithfan1 05-25-2010 10:56 AM

I don't blame you a bit, I'd be pissed too if it were me. I hate it when people do shit like that. He could have at least called you, sent an email, SOMETHING. That's a fine lookin 10 too, a ten is on my "list" and I haven't found one yet.

Ron, you say my set's a 9? The cabinet shows up under the 10's as "The Darcy" I couldn't find a 9 with that cabinet, do you think someone stuck a 9 chassis in there? Do the serial numbers match on the cabinet back and chassis, given the tags are present? If I get my Caprice fixed soon, which it should be, I'll bring the family down to pick it up and hang out for a while. I don't want to wait until the next ETF, or leave it in your way for that long. Sorry to hijack the thread..........

rca2000 05-25-2010 01:10 PM

Guess I "should have known better".

Yesterday afternoon, after I 'made the deal" to go TODAY, after work IMMEDIATELY from here....and get that TV and Umatic(which I did NOT rteally care all that much about...and WOULD have let it go to someone who really wanted it..), I had an "uneasy feeling" that something would go wrong". The guy DID say it was mine and he would meet me today to get the tv and umatic, but he ALSO kept saying things about "how he wants it gone,, and could not wait till Saturday, when I WANTED to come and get it, and he ALSO mentioned somethig about the 1976 Magnavox set. But STILL...I felt "a deal is a deal". it is mine now, and all I need to do is go get it.". I then went home after work, and prepared the van for today.

But still...that "little voice" inside of me....kept saying", why don't you just see if someone from AK could get this, and HOLD it for you, till this Saturday or so". But I IGNORED that little voice, which is almost NEVER wrong. After all, a "deal is a deal, and someone's word is good".

At least, I thought that.

I know I sometimes promise things and do not "come through",(I DO work ealry hours, and hav elittle time mostoften , but i do NOT EVER recall selling something to someone, making a deal..., and THEN , "selling it out from under them", for more money...AFTER A DEAL HAD BEEN MADE!!

It has been a long, hard, hot day here. no AC, other than the bathrooms and office. I am going home from work, and taking a nap in my A/C'd room....and will try and forget this sad experience.

zenithfan1 05-25-2010 01:52 PM

I wish it could have worked out for you, this sucks. I too listen to that "little voice", you are 100% correct on it being right, almost, if not all of the time. Everytime and I mean EVERYTIME I don't listen, I get screwed or something really bad happens. I hope you find a set that will make you forget about this bad experience.

AUdubon5425 05-25-2010 02:55 PM

Some buddy, that Randy.

Eric H 05-25-2010 03:09 PM

I don't know if it made a difference in this case but I would never post a CL ad here in the forum until the deal is done and the set was in my possession.

CL is full of flakes and if this Randy person saw the ad here and then stole it out from under you then he's a flake too, if he found it on CL and made the deal without knowledge of your deal then it's fair game I guess.

I had a feeling this would end badly.

jr_tech 05-25-2010 03:43 PM

I am sure this kind of stuff happens all the time... phone calls and e-mails are easily trumped by cash in hand. After an hour plus drive, one of my phone deals went this way:

Bing Bong... owners wife answers the door...
Hi ! I am here to pick up the TV in CL.
Sorry the TV has been sold.
Yes, I'm the guy that bought it over the phone about 2 hours ago.
No... you are the guy that is going to be angry !
Door shuts.

Cash talks, and there really are no rules in a venue like craigslist or a garage sale. Have you ever been at a swap meet and said "I'll take that," then had someone reach over your shoulder with a fistful of dollars and offer the seller more? Some times you get the item, some times it goes home with the buttinsky.

Eric has a point about keeping mum until an item's in your hand. For all you know, a seller might read the chatter here and suddenly decide it's worth a lot more than they thought.

jeyurkon 05-25-2010 09:52 PM

I'm sorry to hear it ended this way. Maybe Randy doesn't post anymore but he might still read the forum. Hopefully he discovered it independently and only the seller is the jerk.

I guess I was lucky that I had an honorable seller with the CTC-5. I first talked about the set on VK not being sure that I wanted it. Then I decided to get it and when I made the deal with the seller he took the listing down within minutes of agreeing on the price. He then held it until I picked it up.

The '49 Sylvania I picked up from Atlanta Georgia didn't go as well. But, that was half my friend's fault who was going to pick it up. I eventually convinced the seller to let me have it because of the expense I had gone to in preparing to restore the set expecting to get it, and going with a reliable transport company that made it zero work for him to ship it.

I'm also thankful that you still agreed to sell me your Sylvania after at least one other person expressed interest after you offered it to me. In that case though the other interested party just misunderstood the posting and didn't realize he was trying to buy it from under me.

The OP is a dare. If the ad were for an item I wanted and could realistically get my hands on first, my thought bubble response to the final sentence of the OP would be "oh yeah...?"

Fire at will.

rca2000 05-26-2010 05:57 AM

Guess loyalty and honor don't matter here, eh??

Not to some, anyway. "get what you can--while the gettin's good"--all that matters, I guess. Doesn't matter that i had ALREADY "made a deal" for this set--andf I am SURE the one who STOLE it from me KNEW THAT!!

I DO honor a "previous deal" as was mentioned. i COULD have maybe made more than I got for that Sylvaina...but I made a deall...and i STUCK TO IT!! My word means more to me that "money talks"...or "I did the best thing I felt I could business--wise" as the guy called to RUB IT IN TO ME after work!!

sampson159 05-26-2010 09:35 AM

"jerry" called you to rub it in?what a guy, what a sweet guy!give me his name and number.if something happens,we never had this conversation.

I think this thread has gone as far as it can without getting out of hand so it's closed.
