Crosley 9-413 Blonde free in NYC
 

I've had this set over 12 years and I've come to realize that I'll never get around to restoring it. I've done no repair work to it except discovery and planning. It's partially disassembled but complete and the 10BP4 tests good with 60% life. The cabinet is rough and will need veneer work, but this is a nice little set and I think it's fairly rare. In addition to TV, it also gets FM broadcast audio. Someone please pick it up, I don't want to trash it.

I believe this is a fairly rare set, IDK, you guys tell me. I'm moving and I would like to give this to someone who will restore it. 10BP4 picture tube is good, I have most of the original (?) tubes, cabinet is rough and will need veneering, please come get it before Nov. 30. e-mail me at [email protected]

Can you post some pictures? tvhistory says its a console? is that right? can you post measurements? What direction will you be traveling in when you move?

It's a tabletop model. OOPS, 9-403 is the correct model, but same schematic. BTW, Sam's comes with it.

I initially sent "rrago" a PM about picking up the set,his reply was" I will deliver it to you" So,how could I refuse? I gave him a 37-38 Philco radio for his troubles.So rrago is the "righteous dude" Unfortunately,he did not get the "full tour"of the insanity..I mean collection...

Nah, not yet. I changed the flyback, and I think I might have done something wrong, as I got no raster. I powered it down quick as to not damage anything. This one I may find an expert to handle as I've never done a flyback change on a color set.

Honestly, it scared the bejesus out of me powering it up after it was done as to what would happen!

Initially I was interested in this set to use it for parts for a similar set,I did not
know it had a blond cabinet until I took delivery.So now I have 2 sets to restore instead of just 1:sigh:
The blond cabinet looked as if it had been sitting in water for 50 years,so I
figured it would be my first attempt at cabinet repair,after all,how much more
damage could I do?I first had to glue and clamp it together to make it
structurally sound,after that I glued the layers of delaminated wood together.
Lastly I reglued the peeling veneer (what was left) I pieced in non matching
veneer from a Philco cabinet that I had scrapped(as seen on the top right)
The inside edges of the fascia moulding were missing veneer so I filled them with wood
filler,and then painted over the wood filler.So far I stained the face and the top,the sides need alot of veneer and sanding.
Remember,this is my first attempt,if this were a pre-war or some other
uber rare set,I would have a pro do it.

That came out really good.

I was surprised by your Avatar of 'Murder by Television' which is a very interesting film, now out on DVD. Images of the original RCA Nipkow disk scanning camera are used in the film. This is the only time I've ever seen
this camera shown as working.
