Is this an original stand ?

Does anyone know if this stand is original to this slim Admiral portable ? It looks like it could support a variety of sets with a handle on top.

Kinda silly I think :)

It makes me nervous.

Eric H 03-04-2011 04:20 PM

The way it fits the CRT cup and handle I'd guess yes.
Neat Moderne style, but yeah, it makes me nervous too.

Don Lindsly 03-04-2011 05:12 PM

No self respecting product planner would incorporate a handle, advertise easily carried and then offer a rolling cart option. Too many mixed messages, even for the 60s.

It is more likely a well crafted home made stand or a dealer after-market item, like antennas, tables, lamps etc....

Good points. it makes me nervous too now that I think about it. The slightest bump and down it goes

It is like a spinal xray with tons of arthritis. Scarey.

Dan Starnes 03-04-2011 10:51 PM

Stands of the day had an upper cradle for the set itself and a lower tray for whatever which should include magazines, tv guides etc.

This could have been for Hospital use rather than the home.

kx250rider 03-05-2011 10:24 AM

I say it's not original, but I don't know... I can't imagine that they'd have engineered it to depend on the TV's handle being extended and hanging in a (rope) loop.

I think if you had that in your house, you'd end up in the hospital. Either the set would fall on your foot or you'd trip over the legs.

reminds me of a IV bag stand
Whatever it is its tacky .....

matt_s78mn 03-05-2011 09:48 PM

With this kind of stand, wouldn't the TV swing all over the place whenever you'd try to change the channel?... Doesn't seem at all practical to me.

GeorgeJetson 03-06-2011 12:03 PM

It is very futuristic looking, but I agree,I wouldn't trust it either.

By the way, speaking of television stands, does anyone have the optional Danish Modern base for the Motorola Fiberjet?

Looks to me like there is a U shaped metal piece (pix 3 in the eBay listing) on the "support" tubing that holds the CRT bump in place. I still think that it is home made, and strange! :scratch2:

It may be a factory optional stand, look how the frame has a support for the picture tube neck bump on the back of the case, and the area that supports the handle looks like it fits perfectly.
It is an interesting design to say the least.

Tubejunke 03-06-2011 08:20 PM

It looks just like the stand that is holding my guitar up with the top part turned 180 degrees and wheels attached.

:banana::banana::banana:I GOT IT 1 bid , 9.99
:banana::banana::banana:

Im trying to leave the stand in Orland California .
Can't imagine sending that horrid thing all the way to BC .....

GeorgeJetson 03-06-2011 11:55 PM

The base on that stand is neat though!

Tube TV 03-07-2011 02:10 AM

It is kind of neat , the one thing I don't understand is why there's a bolt sticking out the side just below the support on the back of the CRT ?
Maybe it seperates there ?

It still has a strong institutional look to it ,Doubles as a IV stand .
But I can also see that 60's "modern" look also , kind of reminds me of the Kuba Komet styling
I can also see me stumbling off to bed , half asleep and tipping it over .
R.I.P. Admiral if that happend .

Another one of these has popped up, so I guess it was an original stand.
