TRK90 on eBay

Wow, just wow!
Awesome set.

The way the CRT just hangs out there scares me to death though.

Aww, Chit !! That damthaing's ASKIN' for it...

The back is there and the 'cup' will keep the tube relatively well protected--as long as some clod doesn't snap the neck while it's still off.

I'd love to have such a beautiful set, but I'm afraid I won't be bidding.

Phil Nelson 06-26-2011 08:21 PM

Holy Battleships, Batman!! The radio even comes with a Captain Nemo style motorized tuner.

Wrong side of North America for me, so I won't be tempted to break my "no more TVs in 2011" vow.

Oooof! A TRK-90. That's all I need.

Really. That's all I need!:smoke:

Phil Nelson 06-27-2011 12:40 PM

You do need it. If I lived as close as you do, I'd be making an appointment to inspect it in person.

Sometimes those meetings get a little hectic. Maybe a few thousand dollars falls out of your jeans. Maybe the owner spies money on the floor and picks it up, saying, "I wonder where that came from?" Maybe when you get home, you notice that there is an old TV in the back of your truck. "Now, how the heck did that get in there?" It can all be terribly confusing.

I would never encourage a seller to violate eBay rules, of course, but I have heard of Bad People who try such tricks.

High, but probably not as high as the last TRK-9 on ebay a few years ago.
You can never tell with these things, depends on who's in the market when one comes up for sale.

What did the last TRK9 go for?

jeyurkon 06-27-2011 11:37 PM

It looks very similar to the Westinghouse WRT-702 with only a few minor differences in a bezel and cabinet.

I wonder if the chassis are the same?

The Westinghouse and Silvertone sets were RCA electronics in different style cabinets.

Wow! $4k with 4+ days to go and the guy isn't offering to cooperate with shipping. I am truly astonished. Is this more or less rare/desirable than a TRK-12? This vintage TV thing if far more intense than I could have ever imagined.

No worse than some audiophool lusting after a mint MC275, I figure. Wouldn't have one for sale now, wouldya? lol

relaximus 06-28-2011 07:55 PM

I'm afraid not, only have a pair of MC30's awaiting a bit of love. They work, but need a bit of cosmetic restoration (pitted chassis) along with the usual.

I believe the TuRKey-90 is somewhat rarer than a TuRKey-12, but both are sought after with more-a-less the same furvor by those who have the funds to do so.

I think the TRK-9/TRK-90 is rarer than the TRK-12/120, based on the number of locations or discussions of each model I have seen online.

Steve McVoy 06-28-2011 08:49 PM

We have 14 surviving TRK 9/90s in our database compared to 69 TRK 12/120s. We think that 453 TRK9/90s were made compared to 1779 TRK 12/120s.

Man, oh, man. When I close my eyes and picture a prewar TV in my head, this is it. Owning one someday is a dream of mine. Not going to happen this week!

Eric H 06-28-2011 10:56 PM

We just saw a record price set for a Westinghouse color set with a dud CRT, obviously there are still some high rollers out there with money to burn on the right items.
Perhaps this one will go for more than we expect.

Don't get the idea that this is typical. TV collecting is a very low-buck hobby compared to what some audiophiles spend. Car collectors aren't even in the same galaxy, much less the same ballpark.

A set like this represents a tiny fraction of all the old TVs that people collect. Most are newer and far less valuable, hence the excitement when one like this surfaces.

An average price for a vintage TV might be more like $100 - $200. I have around twenty old tube TVs, and all but a couple were purchased in the $40 - $100 range, a couple of them as low as $5 or free.

With the giver / seller laughing as I carted away the set!

vts1134 07-03-2011 07:03 PM

$12,900
A bit out of my price range.

rld-tv01 07-03-2011 07:09 PM

About the same price as the previous TRK90 a few years ago. The previous one was on loan to the Bowie MD Radio/TV museum and was in restored working condition.

kvflyer 07-04-2011 07:50 AM

Notice that the winning bidder placed the bid in the last 10 seconds and it was the only bid from the winner. Yes, I know that you can use an electronic bid monitor that will bid for you. But when I really want something, I will just bid in the last 10 seconds with my "real" top bid. I often bid very low early just to get it on the list for me to monitor...
