Why do all the good ones have to be so far away? I wouldn't ship this set though and I hope he doesn't end up shipping it. Anyone nearby this set that is driving near Maryland in the near future?...lol.

That is super nice and very clean. Worth getting. I like the design very much.

Well there is no way I can take off work to get it.And the gas would be outrageous. Let's hope someone saves that extremely nice cabinet from shipping. I only wish there was some kind of network here to get a set from state from to state.

i sold mine a couple years ago but my friend who bought it now has two , if you interested he probably would sell one , nj is closer then mi

That is a nice set. It has the most important parts still with it! Same model that my grandmother had when I was a kid. She lived in Irvington. Would be nice for you to get it!

I had a later model, my first TV, when I was a teenager and it ultimately got away from me. Fast forward, thanks to this forum, I found another one. It was an easy restore.

I too had one of these TV sets as a teenager, but my father didn't want to keep fixing it as "it's screen is too small to bother with". Later on, about 12 years ago I got another off ebay, and it was an easy restore.

JC, if I spot one I'll let you know. I have a 10" version that I picked up locally in the 90s. I'm not looking to part with it right now. There was an identical model that showed up about 2 years ago at a local auction-it then ended up at an antique mall. I think it had a bad crt and the seller was looking for a ton of money for it. Anyway, they are around.

Better drive up and get it. It has the back and the pencil box door. I have an extra knob if you need it. Cabinet looks beautiful.

With how thick that bakelite is I think it was more like the work of "Little Boy" or "Fat man"!

That is essentially what my 16R12 looked like when it arrived. And unfortunately it became parts.

I purchased a 20X122 bakelite set from this ebay seller a couple years ago. I explained how fragile these are, talked him through pulling the chassis and paid extra to have them shipped separately. It arrived without a scratch.

A few months later he contacted me about this set. I passed on it and warned him again about the fragile nature of the bakelite cabinet. He ended up selling it on ebay. A few weeks later this listing appeared for a damaged parts set. Turns out he shipped it with the chassis installed against my advise and UPS smashed it :tears:

I'm in contact with the seller of that set and have already purchased another set for a member on here thats setting in my garage right now. We are going meet each other half way to swap the sets we both want to avoid having to ship them if I get the one listed above. The set he wanted was close to me and he is super close to the set I want,It worked out so well it's like.....videoKARMA....:yes:

Good luck! There is just no way I can drive to Michigan ever. My boss does not allow any time off work except sundays and certain holidays. The gas would eat me alive. And as bad as I want it I'm closing on my new(to me) house:banana: tomorrow finally and I gotta get moving over with and have no money left.:sigh: I doubt if another one could be found in that condition with the intact pencil door. Maybe someday I'll own a bakelite Admiral like this.:sigh:

Thanks for the good luck wishes, I hope I do get it. I plan to give it a good home and get it in working order as soon as I can if I do get lucky enough to own it.

someone jumped the bid up at the very last second by a 100 bones but oh well it's a I really wanted and am super excited to own it. Now to just have it picked up and schedule the road trip to swap out the set I grabbed for another member.

Thanks, I sure wish I had your knowledge about these things so i could get it up and running sooner. I will have to wait on grandpa to come over and take a look at it or just take the chassis to him since that where all the equipment and parts are.

If you get your Grandpa together with the TV, I'd watch over his shoulder while he works on it. That's the best way to learn!

I plan to watch and learn as much as i can. I think he's kinda excited that I've picked up this new hobby and that I'm interested in all the gizmos in his basement. I like learning about certain parts on here and then talking to grandpa about them.

Jamie, congrats on the Admiral! It really is a fine example of the 22X12. I'm a big fan of the bakelite Admiral sets as well. The only thing finer than the set is the fact you have your Grandpa to show you the ropes of restoring it. It sounds like the two of you will have a great time working on it, keep us posted!

Thanks guys. The set is paid for and Neil will be picking it up for me on sunday:banana: It will probably be towards the end of August before we can arrange a road trip day to meet and swap out our sets due to my crazy work schedule but at least both sets are safe and sound now.
