is this for real or not looks like a ct100
Antique Color TV - $600 (South Lyon) http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/atq/2586665761.html

mstaton 09-09-2011 05:15 PM

Yes it's a CT-100. Grab it if you can ASAP! Worth MUCH more than the asking price especially if it works like he said.

David Roper 09-09-2011 05:15 PM

Another CT-100...I guess we'll find out if it's real!

miniman82 09-09-2011 05:38 PM

Good Lord, 2 CT-100's in 2 days.... can I get them both???

Eric H 09-09-2011 06:21 PM

Another hoax like the CTC2-B or whatever it was a couple weeks back?

Electronic M 09-09-2011 06:34 PM

If I only lived in detroit and had 600$... :zoom:

mstaton 09-09-2011 06:49 PM

I sent an email and asked if that is the "actual" tv in the picture or a generic pic from the internet. I have not yet received an answer.

benman94 09-09-2011 06:59 PM

Ran the image through Tin-eye; no matches found. Encouraging sign. Have yet to receive a reply . . .

miniman82 09-09-2011 07:22 PM

Oh yeah, that one. I was amused that it was in use up till 6 months ago.

Strange that the hoax thread and this one are geographically only 30 miles apart... Royal Oak to Lyon=29.7 miles according to Google maps.

Pete Deksnis 09-09-2011 08:24 PM

If we assume that this is not a scam, then the photo, lousy as it is, indicates a CT-100 that could be a near pristine set. Look at the gold trim strip along the top of the photo. Note the overall luster of the wood. Check the color of the metal strips that secure the safety glass: bright, not the usual dull look.

If I were interested in another CT-100, I'd definitely be checking this one.

The CT-100 in this picture never spent years in a barn or damp basement, or some other uncontrolled environment.

However, the 'it works' statement is suspect of course, but I'm getting curiouser and curiouser.

Pete

No responses to my emails yet . . .

ohohyodafarted 09-09-2011 09:15 PM

I sent a message too. lets see if anybody here gets a reply. Hard to believe that this is for real.

miniman82 09-09-2011 11:19 PM

Still nothing here...

Perhaps the deluge of inquiries has scared him off to Ebay...

Kevin Kuehn 09-09-2011 11:27 PM

It's a little weird how the edges of the picture are cropped off. But I just can't imagine anyone bored enought to fake vintage TV ads.

mstaton 09-10-2011 12:00 AM

No reply as of yet

benman94 09-10-2011 06:55 AM

No replies here. I've got a hunch that this is fake. Just doesn't feel right . . .

benman94 09-10-2011 06:58 AM

Posting on Craigslist hasn't been pulled down yet . . .

benman94 09-10-2011 07:22 AM

Nothing of that sort on eBay in the area. Tried calling around to various local antique shops. I live a stone's throw away. I'm guessing he probably dropped off the face of the earth.

mstaton 09-10-2011 12:01 PM

Still no reply. Looks like it might be fake. Sometimes fake ads are put on to phish for email addresses so they can send you crap.

benman94 09-10-2011 08:33 PM

I'm nearly positive this is fake. Just stumbled across a photo that looks like an uncropped version of the photo in the advertisement. Now what . . . ? Anybody to complain to this scum-bag about?

benman94 09-10-2011 08:35 PM

The old saying still stands: "If it looks or sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Oh well. I've got a solid 60 years to hunt down some rare sets; I know I'll run into one someday . . .

Curious eyes want to see, can you post it?

reeferman 09-10-2011 10:56 PM

My money says it won't happen (though I hope it will).

oldtvsandtoy 09-11-2011 08:17 AM

Ctc 100

yes I think its a hoax . Many emails but no answer. Need to get Jerks like that off the net!!!!:nono:

kx250rider 09-11-2011 11:36 AM

CAUTION: I think that's a picture of my set. That doesn't mean for sure it's a scam, but I recognize the 1/2 sun-faded setup controls insert piece, which came from a set that I junked out.

Charles

old_tv_nut 09-11-2011 05:11 PM

I thought the bright orange on the top might be the Sylvania neon sign at ETF, but I checked my photos, and that shines on the faces of the CT-100s there.

vts1134 09-12-2011 04:08 PM

I just talked to the gentelman who listed this on the phone. He told me that his grandfather was a TV repair man. His price doubled but I told him I still was still interested in it. He says when he turned the set on it had sound and static on screen. An acquaintance of an acquaintance is headed to his place to pick the set up. It looks like this was not a hoax.

Kevin Kuehn 09-12-2011 05:09 PM

Glad to hear that somebody got through. Would love to see more pictures of the set.

CT100 in S. Lyon, MI

ITS FOR REAL, I have seen it, looked at it, It works, Strong pix tube
Lots of IF noise in picture. Some one advised him the ad was too
cheap and advised him it was worth 1200.00 at least, I made an
offer. I keep you posted

miniman82 09-12-2011 05:53 PM

So what's the story behind it?

Wow! You mean someone was honest? That's really nice to hear, with all the vultures circling around here trying to take advantage of the uninformed seller.

.

Electronic M 09-12-2011 07:17 PM

Is not having the budget to afford even a fraction of the fair price, and taking a gloden oppratunity to get a highly sought after piece that one otherwise would not have chance to afford a crime.

If it is then I guess I've been dreaming (nefariously ploting?) to become a criminal.:yikes::D

miniman82 09-12-2011 08:05 PM

I'll give $1,201! :D

Next bid...

It was for real. attached are some pix of the set, The "orange glow" mentioned
to the top was a RCA service oil cloth used for servicing that was left on the set
for 40 years or so, It stick leaving a film of sticky stuff all over--The common
things do not remove. I need an expert. Most likely will need to refinish. a bar
generator indicates a need of a few repairs or adjustment, vertical out of range
and no color prersent. For those you need to know, the set was purchased for
well under the latest asking price.

Glenz75 09-13-2011 07:30 PM

Congrats on the purchase of that RCA. Looks like you have a really nice example there. :)

It appears you are the acquaintance of the acquaintance that picked the set up.
