Hole-ly Motorola!
Better ventilation indeed!
The mask on this one looks remarkably preserved, maybe the extra air flow? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Moto...item43a9c149fa |
The CRT looks nice and bright. This one should be a great parts set, or maybe someone has a spare cabinet. I have a fully restored VT-71 cabinet waiting for the chassis from my other set that is in a beat-up cabinet.

I can't believe the CRT mask is still intact, must have been stored upright all it's life.

Holy cow, that thing is probably 10 minutes drive from me! If the price stays that cheap I may even be able to afford it on my shoe string budget....

I do have a blond VT-71 that I recaped (except for some micas that are causing terible intermitant deflection frequency issues) and had working before some shorting in the tuner took out the RF (or maybe IF?). The cabinet on my VT-71 is so messed uo that I'm not even going to consider taking it on untill I learn cabinet restoration and get a LOT of experience.

Speaking of Holy Motorola.... this one must really be special...

I must be pre war to command such a price or perhaps the owners have been somkeing the good chit :smoke:

Do I dood it?
........ ............ ................ Yep. I dood it! I bid on it. I have a dirty, but, not junk empty shell for it. I can put it in that. Anybody got spare knobs they can trade? Wish me good luck, guys. Bill Cahill |
It is about over the edge of what I might be able to convince my folks to spend so I'm not going to bid.
Hope you win it Bill. |
Good luck Bill. CRT looks good and the chassis is in somewhat good condition judging by the fact that it has most of a raster...
|
I wouldn't vouch for the health of the person that made that cut... they went right through the asbestos mat!
|
I give up. Another upstart outbid me, and, after 3 tries to outbid him, as usual, found he's got more money than grey matter.
I officially quit. Bill Cahill |

The 7JP4 is worth more than the present bid ($66.55). I usually start bidding early in an auction but NEVER put my high bid. If I am interested in an item, I will usually bid at about the first bid price. Then I watch and will not bid until the last 5 seconds of the auction. If I win, I usually get it for a lot less. If I don't win, it was not to be. I never peck away at an auction... |
Yep, this one's all about the tube, though it has a nice chassis too.

Yep- We may look back someday & think $100 7JP4s were "Cheap".
|
First, I didn't peck at it. I was outbid, and, everytime I tried to outbid him, he outbid me.
Period. I agree on tube, but, frankly, I think this guy would pay anything to get it. That's why I quit. Look at his no. I think he is well off, and, willing to spend whatever it takes. If 200.00, he'll spend it. Bill Cahill |
You know Ebay does proxy bidding, right? The guy probably wasn't even there bidding against you, in fact looking at the bidding history your last 2 bids happened nearly 30 minutes after the winning bid was posted. You hadn't even pushed his max yet, but none of us will know if that max was $2 higher than your last bid or $200. So it goes with online auctions, raise your max if you really want something.
