Some old man had a LOT of time on his hands, and must have bought both new, thinking that it would have been a waste to toss "such a beautiful cabinet".

Back in a day when seeing such TVs at the curb was a very common occurance, you have to give him props for his creativity.....

Which knob tunes it, I'm confused?

My first roundy was almost a different silvertone than the metal one......I came upon a HUGE Slivertone stereo console that had had the roundy fail, and the previous owners had gutted the TV, stuffed a 70's-mid 80's pushbutton tuning Silvertone table set in the place once occupied by the bezzle of the roundy and modded the stereo system to work in it's absence.

If I had known that I'd get a metal cabinet Silvertone months later I'd have took the whole console instead of gutting the stereo because I really loved the look of that console cabinet.

I also once gutted the remaining speakers and tuner from a late 60's Maggie that had an 80's zenith in it.

It seems that when tube color sets appear in the wild in my neck of the woods they always are missing the CRT and main chassis.

Looks rather novel...I wonder if the owner had the Zenith speaker hooked up to that replacement television? Would have sounded far better! :yes:

Whomever did this managed to find a tv that fit perfectly in that space, at least... Nice cabinet indeed.

Kind of hard to make out for sure in the picture, but isn't that just a piece of unfinished plywood holding that new set in place?

Take it easy on me. If it was not missed my browsers spell check then after playing with the spelling a bit I must have gave up. I've had a nasty cold since Saturday that has made it difficult for me to sleep so I'm not mentally together, and have not been for some time.

Ah the gutting a good TV to replace the gust with something inferior.... My grandfather did something similar to his KV-1901 TV/Betamax console combo. First the beta deck was replaced with a JC Penny "3 head" VHS, put on cut 2x4's inside the space where the SL-6200 was from the factory, a nice hole drilled in the plastic drop cover to let the IR remote signal through. Then later when the TV portion went out, the local TV guy said "the tube blew up just junk it" but i remember what the problem was black bars and hum so bad filter cap" anyway he pulled out the monitor section and it was replaced by a "Teknika" 19" set that was a raffle prize....

Kind of wish i had that Sony now...
