Pair of CT-100's and a pair of Moto 21CT2's for sale
That's right, a pair of each!
http://www.earlytelevision.org/classifieds_color.html Both CT-100's have bad CRTs, the Motos don't say. |
I know him... Interesting story about those sets.. He used to live in LA, and nearly lost those sets in the '94 Northridge Earthquake. I remember seeing his condo building lying in ruins on TV, and later I found out that Tom was holed up inside, keeping an eye on his TVs, and refused to evacuate (as ordered by the LA Sheriff and the Building & Safety Dept). I'm shocked he's selling them! I haven't talked with him in years since he moved to CO, so a good chance to catch up. I personally saw one of those working, and the tube wasn't bad at that time. I'm not going after the CT-100s; just in case anyone is wondering...

Made an offer on the Moto's. I already have 2 ct100 with good tubes so I will leave the RCA's for some other collector. But they look like nice original sets.
UPDATE: 2 Moto's are comming to Milwaukee to live at Bob's house. Steve McVoy will be bringing them to Hilliard and I will pick them up at convention, when I deliver the rest of the Hawkeye equipment that I have been storing, during ETF convention. Se ya all at convention. Be there or be square. |
Good news, Bob! I can't wait to see your latest projects, good thing they won't be total rehabs like your latest endeavor. You need an easy one for a change, I just hope the 21AXP22's are good.

 I acquired one of the CT-100's. It was originally owned by KYW in Cleveland. It's on the road now with Steve on the way to ETF so I can pick it up at the convention.
The other one was owned by Hickok for developing test equipment. Steve Mcvoy tested the 15GP22 in that one and says that it's good! Mine is gassy and will need to take a vacation in France. John |
Ah HATE yews guys....-Yosemite Sam, Esq. (grin) Seriously, a BUNCH of nice sets saved ! Excellent news for all !

John,
Congratulations in your membership into the CT-100 club. :D:yippy: |
Wow, that's great! Wonder why the CRT was advertized as being bad?

I was amazed about how much he knows of the history of each set. |
John,
Glad you got one of the two. Michigan has at least five CT-100's now! One more than Wisconsin ;-) Pete |
I tested the CRT in the older CT-100 today - .9 on the red and green guns, .8 on the blue on a Beltron. Bob and John's sets are on their way to Ohio now.

I'm from WI, does that count? :D |

If memory serves me right, those Motorolas have a very unique color circuit. They also have a hugh power supply! I had one in high school and until the 21AX went bad, ran the daylights out of it! It was replaced with a Zenith 26KC20.

There are 2 or 3 here in Tennessee. Unfortunately, none are mine.

Here are some photos Steve McVoy took after transporting it to the ETF.
I've shown the worst side of the cabinet. The other sides look better. The chassis looks pretty nice. I'll need to start a thread eventually. John |
Very Nice! :thmbsp:
Congratulations on joining the CT-100 club! jr |
Ok so lets see,
Bob G has 2, There is a fellow in the Madison area that got one out of Minnesota a number of years back, Steve Kissinger has one in West Bend, and I am going to count Steves California CT100 as a Wisconsin set because Steve is a Wisconsin native. And then there is Nick's ct100 who is also a displaced Wisconsin native who is forced to live accross the state line in Illinois, but we won't hold that against Nick because he is patriotic American serving his country in the US Navy :thmbsp: I make that 6 for Wisconsin Plus Nick's one and only prototype tri-color crt. |
Uhh, VERY Stoopit Question: WHY did they "Wash" the inside of the cabinet black ?
|

Edit: like maybe black is the cheapest stuff they could find to treat the wood against moisture or something? |

That's how I had it figured. We can't let Michigan win! If Pete doesn't see it this way I guess I will have to ship my California set back home! Steve |
If it's getting too crowded in Wisconsin, I'm willing to take one

But, I'm still preaching that RCA introduced the first mass-produced NTSC color television set. Not Westinghouse. :thumbsdn: Not Admiral., which according to newspaper clips we've all seen, was on the market even before the Westy... Pete Proud supoporter of CT-100's the world over! |
Looking at Phil's photos you can see that they also included the vent holes at the top of the cabinet when they washed it black.
The CT-100 doesn't have the brightest screen in the world. It would likely be watched in a dim room. The metal back has a high optical transparency, better than 50%. It has a gazillion tubes in it. I think they painted all these surfaces black to reduce the amount of light that would shine on the wall behind the set from all the tube filaments. I don't think they would have carefully included the top vent grooves/holes for any other reason. Painting the interior black would make sense for heat reasons if it were a metal cabinet, but wood is a pretty good insulator. So the heat would have to be reflected out the back, in addition to convection cooling. A low emissivity surface would work just as well as a high one at reflecting the heat out the back so I don't think it was painted black for heat dissipation. Actually I mean that a low emissivity surface would reflect the heat out and a high emissivity surface would re-emit it out. John Quote:
