Awww, Man...

technicolor 05-28-2013 11:00 PM

not sure if i posted this already, but i picked this up in Boston maybe 6 weeks ago. All the trips are starting to become a blur, lol.
some bastard from the golf channel tried to up the asking price and have the guy hold the set for him. THe owner god bless his him, told him to get lost, a buyer from NJ, gee wonder who that could be, was already on his way up. Thye had one bad ass chrysler in the driveway, looked like a 72 newport.

Some people appreciate the fact your driving five or six or 7 hours each way to get their set, others, like the pompous ass i dealt with tonight suddenly think their broken $15 tv is suddenly worth $5k cause u wouldn't drive all this way unless it was worth a lot right?

$40, works great.

Not a bad set, but definitely pretty uninspiring. xl-100 circa 1977. Mint shape, but you can tell what the future was going to bring. Extremely light, flimsy cabinet, u can tell that they were definitely cutting corners by this time. Paid $40 it was close by, so i am not complaining.

MMMM, fake woodgrained pressboard

technicolor 05-28-2013 11:53 PM

here's what it looks like now, I'm telling you, someone must be breaking in here and disposing of their unwanted tv's.

http://paintforcars.com/Merchant2/im...__IMG_2939.jpg

Got 18 sets now, and tons of work to do.

mstaton 05-28-2013 11:55 PM

Looks like a showroom from the 1970's

Wow, you have two things I really wish I had:

1. Lots of great looking sets
2. Lots of room for lots of great looking sets

Nice collection. It looks like all you need is some advertising posters on the wall and a salesman to hit up everyone that walks in the door.

Hey thanks for the compliments. Glad u liked it.

Once i'm done with everything, which should take me several months i'm going to make a youtube channel and take tons of videos of them working and share them for people who want to see sets like that. Kind of a virtual tour.

You've got some very nice TV's!

That '77 RCA XL100 was the first one to use the flat modular chassis, when RCA discontinued the older upright XL100 chassis. Those '77 models were cheaper built; but, still produced a good picture when they were right.

What is the chassis number and screen size on that?

RobtWB 05-29-2013 06:55 AM

technicolor-

you are one fortunate man - looks like you have the beginnings of one hell of a man cave

those 2 RCA look great BTW, would arm wrestle you for either of them

VERY nice collection. And a nice place to keep them. You definitely need to accessorize. Some advertising banners, maybe a store sign, a Pam clock. Reminds me of my apartment when I was in college back in the late 70s. I used to buy and sell sets, and my apartment was filled with late 60's consoles.

Reminds me of my computer sales days, back when u could actually make a buck or two selling a pc.

Hey glad u like the collection.

sampson159 05-29-2013 05:02 PM

for the minimal time you have invested, this is quite a collection.the flat chassis zenith and the ctc40 combo are dream sets!the drive and determination you have is unequaled.with the addition of the roundie combo,i would say you have one of the finest collections ever.mine is pale in comparision.now get them fixed and post pictures of them working.cant wait!

What are you running for sources, technicolor? RG-58 pipelines from a master bank or over the air transmission? I have used both to great avail, when running many analog tv sets simulataneously

sampson159 05-30-2013 04:33 PM

if you are speaking of the tube chassis zenith, yes,it is a solid wood cabinet set bought from the lazarus dept store in sept of 1969.crt was replaced under service contract in 1987.set belonged to a fine elderly gentleman who went to a nursing home.it now belongs to another fine gentleman.
