According to the nameplate on the Kodak VCR, shows a Panasonic part number.
I didn't think Panasonic built 8mm equipment. :scratch2: |

Pantysonic made some nice VHS decks...

Wow, I've got one of those NEC SVHS decks, and this is the first time I've seen any reference to it on the net. It's been a good machine since I changed the ruined cassette load motor, and the bad belts it had when I bought it.

Guess I will re-run my Mitsubishi HS-430U. Has every feature they could pack into it in '84-85: MTS Stereo tuner, HiFi Stereo, Dolby linear stereo, remaining time counter, manual audio levels, illuminated cassette well with a mirror system so you can see down into the cassette.

Very hard to beat this machine. The Sony EDV-9500, but with nice wood side panels.
|
That's the EDV-9300, made for the Canadian market.
|
OK, thanks. The U.S. had the EDV-7500 with wood panels, but it was a less-feature-laden model. (I do not want to call any ED Beta VCR "stripped down".)

The Kodak is a panasonic, ACJ is the code for them.
Good eyes spotting the tag part ## 73 Zeno:smoke: |
I'm privileged to own an example of a very unique looking VCR, the Sony SL-HF2100. Not a single physical button on the unit, and the only switch is for selecting channel 3 or 4 output. Also is apparently the only consumer Betamax deck to sport S-video jacks. It didn't come with the matching remote, but for the price I paid, I'm not complaining too much. :) Pictures available at the top of this page.

Oops, never mind, not Beta!

I had a temporary partial brain disfunction:headscrat and posted about the SLV-R1000 S-VHS machine having S-Video connectors and after posting realized you were talking about a consumer Beta having S-Video...
But since ai uploaded it, I'll re-run the picture anyway. Wish I had a pic of one with the door open and the LCD backlit panel lit up with its CCFL tube. I remember about 10 years ago seeing a stack of these at Fry's on closeout for $499 ea. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps044ccfea.jpg |

It certainly does have one.

I have a Panasonic PV-4022 mono VHS VCR. Still works like new after 11 years, although I don't use it for recording anymore, just for playing the old VHS tapes in my collection. The automatic clock set function does not work any longer since the DTV transition. This feature used a special XDS (extended data signal) to set the clock; the signal was transmitted (in the vertical blanking interval, if I remember correctly) by PBS television stations, but when DTV came along that signal disappeared. Oh well, since I don't use the deck anymore for recording that doesn't matter.
|
One thing about some of these old VCR's. They may be built like tank and be reliable, but the power consumption is something else! Not exactly economical.

Gotta put my 1985 Zenith VR 2000 JVC built VCR out there.

I think the best looking VCRs, are the high end top loaders from the late 1970s. The solid build quality, the positive feel of the piano key buttons, brushed metal finishes. They look more like high end stereo equipment of the era, than the later plastic built to a price machines.
I also like the looks of the two piece units, where the tuner and VCR are separate, with the idea that the VCR portion can be used as a portable. I used to have an AKAI from about 1977, which I had tons of fun with. It's long gone now, I wish I still had it. |

RCA Dimensia VCRs

Here's some more pics of the VKT700. And my other RCA Dimensia VCR, the VPT630HF (1987). I believe RCA also made a third version of the Dimensia VCR, the VPT695HF, which was SVHS, but I don't have that one.

Zenith sideways loading VCRs
3 Attachment(s)
Here's more pics of the sideways loading Zeniths. I have 3 of them: The VR2300 again, the VR3300, and the vertically-oriented VRD530HF (1988). The VRD530HF doesn't work, it's completely dead, probably something wrong with the power supply...

I do have a Zenith VRE550HF  :D Actually, I have two of them, but the other one (I think) has a bad head. That last pic is most of my collection of RCA and Zenith front loading VHS VCRs.
