Nice workshops.
I'll have to clean up mine and take a few photos to share. Too much crap, too little space:-) BTW Walterbeers, what do you use those portable lamps for? Do they work well with TV work? I have some just like those stored away. Carl |
Great setup! You've learned the secret I discovered last year.....you can't work on TVs when you have no space to spread out. My setup isn't as nice and spacious as yours, but I can easily have three sets apart simultaneously without creating a huge mess.
Once upon a time, I had TVs stacked like cord wood and never had the space or time to really tear any of them apart and do the work. Nicely done! :) |
Nice setup. I like the idea of the shop lamps. May need to hit home depot next weekend! My shop isn't anywhere near that clean when I'm working on a set. Seems like I have stuff scattered everywhere.

The shop lamps work great when I'm doing work on chassis like replacing caps, resistors, etc. I set it behind me kinda off to the side, and focus it onto unit I'm working on. It also works great work when working on cars, etc. (Those lights get awful hot though). I also cherish my CTC9. Great set with original CRT, and works great. CTC9 has a little problem with vertical stability though, meaning I have to tweak the hold control as it warms up occasionally. I also have a posting about it under vintage color. Need to put more info and picture of it working on there. PS the Predicta shown on the big screen isn't mine though, however wish I could find one I could afford that I could restore.

My Cat

Only 1 Cat! (La La) and yes, she has claws, which I clip from time to time. The cat actually belongs to my son, however she doesn't get along with his other cat, so we (inherited her).

Manly but :scratch2: maybe some Playboy centerfords or something ?- I dunno...

I really don't have all that much room for my old TVs, but true I can't work in a cluttered mess. Wife says I should sell some of them before I pick more up, But I don't want to part with my old relics since I put so much time into them. The area with my benches is where I used to repair TVs etc. for an income which I gave up about 15 years ago, when everything went to throw away foreign junk. Some of the sets I had in my posession years ago, I could kick myself for getting rid of them. I remember (many years ago) junking an old CTC5, with a necked CRT, and giving a CTC11 away to the goodwill trailer, that had a weak tube. Also junked several porta colors, and lots of other tube sets as well, never realizing that people would want them as collector items today. However back in the days, I used to sell color roundies that I repaired for $200 or more. Gosh, times have changed!

Here is my Radio and TV repair shop area.
I have a lot of equipment and parts but not much space. Seems every flat area ends up with something on top of it. I took a bunch of stuff to a swap meet last week and it looks like I need to go to the next one. I had the Chassis out of my Philco 48-2500 TV on my workbench and it was tight working on it. What I think we all can't get enough of is uncluttered table top space. I'm thinking of making my main workbench wider by removing all the equipment on attaching a 36" wide solid core door I have. Then doing something different with the picnic bench I'm using. Any suggestions? Carl |

While it's convenient to have all your test equipment and parts right there on the bench, chances are you won't use most of it enough to have it that close to the work area when space is at a premium. I hang my small parts cabinets on the wall, and most of my test equipment other than my DMM, soldering iron, and variac are on shelves on the other side of the room.
I then have an old dining room table and some folding chairs with a gooseneck fluorescent light, which gives me plenty of room to maneuver the big chassis sets.....and the dollhouse my wife's working on :) Things are a bit messier in the basement than usual.....I've been logging some pretty serious hours on the soldering iron lately. |
Nice Sylvania Halolight.
I know someone who has one - if only I can get him to sell it to me:-) Wifey won't be happy with another TV in the house. Carl |
That one's not mine, it's a repair job for a guy in the DC metro area. All done and working well, just have to replace the selenium rectifiers.
Speaking of which, the parts just came in the mail yesterday...... |
Wow, great pic's, walterbeers! I especially like the RCA Color maple cabinet roundie! what a beauty! I'd like to see pictures of it working, and also the (Zenith?) B&W set that is sorta next to it, in the corner! Good job.
