Opinions please.

Not that your guys are known for being shy about your opinions . . . :D

but I am toying with the idea of changing the speaker cloth on the Tele-bar. Stay with the original black, or add a touch more gold to balance out the black more? What do you think?

 And in MY stinky opinion I give one vote for "original recipe please"

Being a purist I always go with original.

For what it is worth, I like the black better...

Hi I would go for what you like best I know the original is best but you have to live with it and this can be easily changed if you want later. Danny

I think I like the gold better.
BTW that is such a cool set!

I like the gold cloth. Everything about it. The tonal value, pattern, excetera.

Even as a purist, I say go for it. Speaker cloths can always be changed back.

Go big or go home!:smoke:

Thanks for everyone's 2 cents. I think I am gonna keep the original and make a second board with the gold on it. This way I have both done and can decide which one to put in later and switch them out anytime I feel like it. Do not want to trash the original, but I kinda like the gold too.

Also, my wife may have some input with this decision as well. This set is the ONLY one she kinda likes of my collection. Everything else she simply . . . tolerates. LOL!

I like the original black better. I think the gold will draw too much attention to the non centered speaker area.

That's a beautiful set you have there, but I'd sure dread keeping a black anything dusted around this place. :D

Wife picked the gold! What to do?!?!? I think I am going to make a second speaker board with the gold on it so I can keep original and switch to gold if I want to. Swap out is easy enough. I kinda like both. Appreciate keeping the original, but the gold also "makes it pop" as my wife stated.

wa2ise 04-01-2014 03:30 PM

I'd go with the gold. If for no other reason that it shows that you appreciate her input :D

Best solution. Earn some Bonus Husband Points if your wife likes the gold. If later you decide the sell the piece, reinstall the original and it's authentic.

Oh, ok. Go with the gold. ;)

After all the stuff you're bringing in I'm shocked that you got her down to the basement to make a recommendation :D

Oh I need the bonus points BIG TIME!!!! I have only been in this hobby about 2 years and I have 7 TVs and 7 radios. I live in a 1300 square foot townhouse. So the basement is packed with stuff. Our basement is a nicely refinished space with blue walls and very light tan carpet. So not like it's a workshop type basement. I set up a temp workspace in one corner and do my best to keep everything clean. Luckily I have a small unfinished portion with a slop sink to do cleaning and dirty work, but she is probably at the end of her rope with me and my "stuff." :twak:

Speaking of dirty work, 63 years of tarnish removed. My hands are sore from all the polishing, but they came out great!

You could always sew all the fabrics end-to-end on a roll, and install a crank on the side. Then you could just roll it to the color you want for the day ;)

Spent a little time last night going through the radio and phono on the Telebar. Looks like everything is there and in decent shape on the radio (model 5D2 - AM/FM). Should be able to have that up and running along with the TV chassis soon.

I am going to need to disassemble the entire phono (Model RC550), clean it, re-lube and re-assemble. Have located a NOS cartridge with needle, but it is pricey. Have ordered JUST a needle ($7) and can then test the cartridge in it. At some point I may want to upgrade the guts of the tone arm with a more modern cartridge so I don't have to keep trying to track down crystal cartridges.

Only thing that seems to be missing on the entire set is the plug and wires from the speaker to the TV chassis. Admiral used a 2 prong plug into the TV chassis for the speaker hookup. Prongs were different diameters. Anyone have a spare Admiral speaker plug lying around? I guess I could just use bullet connectors for each wire and shove them in, but would love to find the correct plug for this socket.

This weekend I am working on the resto of a friend's 1950 Dodge radio. Mopar Model 604. A PAY JOB!!!!! :D
