Need Part for Zenith Chromacolor-2
I am in dire need of a 212-149 HV Trippler for a Zenith Chromacolor 2 that is the set my wife mainly watches. the trippler (which was original) finally failed after 39 years of use. the chassis is a 25JC49 & uses a oddball trippler, the ECG 526 or 528 will not work because of this trippler has a extra connection marked as "refference".
does anyone here know of a resource as where i can find one? prefferably a N.O.S. thanks. please pm me if you may have info on one. |
There was a lot on e-bay of OEM Zenith triplers including
many odd ball ones for EFL jugs & others that rarely failed. That was abt a month ago, dont know if it sold, I posted the link here cause it was a great deal. I dont remember the -149 difference from the common -141-** but ref is usually the low ( almost ground) end. If you wish PM me Monday & I will look up the EC & JC chassii to see what the difference is providing I got both manuals. BTW if its an EFT jug there will be a plug on it with two focus wires. EFL's started in H line on top-o-line 17 & 19 sets. 73 Zeno:smoke: |

FYI---it crosses to an ECG 561.
I MAY have a 561 in my garage NOS, will have to check this week. I have a couple of boxes of NOS triplers and at least 2 quads too. |

The added wire on the JC chassis is marked grey-brown.
Goes through a 100 ohm to GND. Also goes through 1.1 meg to low end of the G-2 controls. No subs listed at that time. 73 Zeno:smoke: |

I hope this is not the set like one I worked on years ago that has always stuck in my mind. We had a Chromacolor 2 that would destroy a new tripler on turn on. It took us a few trys and we finally tried a new flyback and tripler together. When the tripler was disconnected the flyback would act normal. Once connected the tripler would short immediatly. If I can find the schematic I'll let you know.

Found the service manual. There are no notes about tripler/flyback failure. The reference line shows a 7 watt resistor going to brightness limiting from the tripler. This must supply a voltage to the video circuit to allow it to control brighness. The only note is about stretched vertical. A zener in the power supply fails and causes that.

Zenith replaced your 212-149 tripler with a 977-45 kit. Go with the original - no other way to ensure it will work.
None on ebay, Moyers never did the Zenith thing. Give George at talonix a try. Cheers, |

There is a used ECG 561 on Ebay right now. 10.95 + ship
Might be of interest. They spelled "tripler wrong--might be why you missed it., http://www.ebay.com/itm/ECG561-Hi-Vo...item35ca7d7318 |
Same seller seems to have a BUNCH of electronic items for sale---more multipliers, flybacks, some NEC chassis and even a bit of audio parts (A1215 and C2921 transistors), and vintage video cameras and such. Along with a bunch of JUNK--for the "masses"..
I ALWAYS check the "see other items" tab anymore if I see an item I like.. --never know what might be there. |

damn.. I have a TON of Zenith CC2 parts, but not that tripler.
The only triplers I came up with ( if anyone is in need) are: 212Z9529 977-00036 Tripler kit ( tripler is a 212-141-05) 212-130 Also found an OLD Zenith flyback. Can't tell if it's for color or B&W. Part number is : S-68398 |
Glad you got one. I just found my stash, no 212-149, just a 212-148-01....
