NEED 19VP22 for Newly unearthed 19" MOTO 19CK1
 

I left Milwaukee at 2AM, and arrived in Chicago at the estate sale around 4AM. I was the 5th person through the door when the sale opened at 9AM.

When the doors opened, I went directly to the set and claimed it for myself and plunked down all of $75 for it. The set is missing the 19VP22 crt. I asked the estate sale workers if they had come across any picture tubes, and they said they looked for the picture tube but they did not find any picture tubes.

Doug Harland also attended the sale and we had a chance to visit for a while before the sale opened at 9AM. Doug did a bit of research about the man who used to live here. He was an engineer and he worked for Motorola, which is no doubt how the set came into the possession of the engineer. Because this man was obviously a pack rat / hoarder, I would have to believe that if the set had come to him with a crt, he would have kept it. I therefore conclude he got the set from Motorola without the crt.

After Doug and I carried the set out of the basement we took the back of the set off and discovered the chassis is stamped "EXPERIMENTAL NOT FOR RESALE" So this set is either an engineering sample or a pre-production demonstration sample. The set is in very pristine original condition.

As many of you may recall, shortly after the 19CK1 hit the dealer showrooms, RCA started producing the 21AXP22 21" color crt. Motorola decided to send upgrade kits to the dealers to upgrade all of the existing sets that had the CBS Hytron 19VP22, and install a 21AXP22. As a result there are very few of the 19CK1 sets, that were left in their original 19" configuration.

So this set is not only rare because it is still in the original 19" configuration, but it is even more rare because it was stamped "Experimental" and was never released from the factory to the general public.

I want to thank Doug Harland for helping me haul this set out of the basement of the house it was in and for taking the photos I am posting. I am not able to take any photos myself right now because my street is under construction and I cant get my van into my driveway to unload the set from my van.

THIS SET WAS NEVER CONVERTED TO A 21" CRT. It is still a very rare original 19" set. It is for this reason I am asking the collector community to put the word out to try and find a 19VP22 CBS Hytron crt for this set so I can install the original crt that this set was intended to have. This set deserves to be preserved in the original state it was originally configured.

I think I have had dreams where I find a set like that at an estate sale.

Not to drop dimes or anything, but Folsom won an auction for one on Ebay last year, you might see if he will have pity on you?

Bob did very well that day, as he also nabbed a CTC5 on his way home.

Very nice find, Bob. I hope you are able to find a 19-inch CRT for it.

Your place in line is determined by how early you get to the sale. First guy starts a list and places his name at the top. He is #1. The next guy to arrive gets on the list as #2 and so on. The #1 guy has to stay at the sale and maintain the list till the doors open. Other people can leave and come back before the doors open. 30 minutes to 1 hour before the doors open, numbered tickets are handed out in the order in which your name appears on the list. Number 1 name on the list gets ticket #1 etc. That numbered ticket is your ticket to get in the door by order of the ticket number. If you name is called when the tickets are being handed out, and you are not there, your name is skipped and the next name on the list gets that ticket number.

So I arrived at 4AM and placed my name on the list. Then I sat in my car until 8:30 when the numbers were handed out and I received my numbered ticket. At 9AM the doors opened and I was #5 through the door.

Exciting (in regards to TVs) find .
I noticed there was a video chassis number (8)(B)P-902A-01. Was this chassis number possibly used in the 15" version and modified for this set? I wouldn't think they would stamp a chassis model on a built from scratch chassis. But I've been known to be wrong now and then.
I also see a serial tag number on the power chassis. Steve has compiled a serial # listing for these sets. I wonder where the serial number falls (if a serial number exists on the tag).
I'm sure you will eventually compare (schematic) this set to both the 15" and 19" production sets.

Well, this set is kinda like my 621 RCA-Even if I never get it going, I think its neat as H3!! just HAVING one of the dern things ! To get a 19" tube would be GREAT-A working one would TRULY be the Icing on the Cake !

Wow, what an awesome TV! It will be a true miracle to get the CRT but seems like this is the place for it to be found. To see a picture on a TV like that as it would have been working originally would be a beautiful thing to experience.
I knew a TV man who would have serviced such sets when new. He opened a Motorola sales & service shop in St. Petersburg, Fla in '63. Ed Callahan. Another awesome man who is not with us. I looked his son up online and discovered he is gone too. So, this just reminds me that is is a great thing to get any history of things whenever possible.
Is it difficult to get the name of the owner of this Motorola? I would want to speak to his friends and relatives. The process would be a wonderful just to meet and discuss all relevant to the TV while honoring the man who saved it. Maybe someone remembers the CRT and knows where it is or one like it.
I agree with the logic mentioned that it likely was taken home without it but we all know that stranger things happen all the time! Perhaps the man took it home intending to put the bigger CRT kit in it. It would not surprise me if you find the CRT at his nephew's house waiting to go in another Motorola on the first of Never.

That's nice and civilized doing the numbers that way. Many times people do it that way here in NJ too, but I've been to two sales where for whatever reason the people running the sale refuse to honor the "user-generated" number list. There was a distinct odor of bad karma on those days.

Awesome Moto! The chassis looks like they really wanted to make sure you didn't miss the fact that it was experimental! :D

As much a I always liked Motorola sets, that model never did much for me.
Of course, I wouldn't pass on getting one. I didn't like the hot chassis design with the heater transformer or the way it's laid out. Plus the Victorene voltage regulator and the impossible to get or substitute CRT.
Now, the TS905 is a different story! One of the sharpest looking sets, at the time, better designed chassis and twin 5U4 power supply.
IIRC, this chassis uses the same regulator circuit. :sigh::scratch2:

The TS905 (21CT2 M or B) uses a 6BK4 not a Victoreen (Sams Set #371, Folder 5). Nice set, for sure!
