Headboard with TV and 8-Track
Has anyone ever seen something as crazy as this?

A VERY SHITTY receiver, a Lloyds or other such jink !!
And a ROUND bed? My mom ALWAYS said they are not real practical.. |
The ultimate bom-chicka-wahwa room for a disco lady....:D
|
But does the bed spin? Very shag-a-delic, baby...
|
Yup, receiver POS Lloyds, Electrophonic or other such
trash. TV has Sylvania or Philco look to it. Not my cup-o-tea. Kid was probably a spoiled brat that needed a good going over with a swishy stick. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
I bet the luckiest experience the owner got in that thing was seeing a favorite show come on.

I think, I remember seeing that picture somewhere years back. It was probably built by some off-the-wall designer. :thumbsdn: |

Probably Irish as my mother used the term. When she got pissed she
would run around the house yelling "wheres my swishy stick". If we were lucky she didnt find it. Grand Pa was worse. One nite my uncle cam home late & hid under the bed. He couldnt find his shellelagh so he attacted him with a rake. The weapons of choice for the Irish were shellelaghs or the shod foot. 73 Zeno:smoke: Quote:

In Milwaukee, the only Zeno's I met were Polish. My paternal Grandfather was Irish, hence my last name, "Nash". |

No but Ma's aunt was. Sister Frances Leo. A real sweet heart.
She was a cook & a good one for being Irish. A good lesson in immigration. Grand Pa had to sponsor her. If she committed a crime or stopped working she would be sent back at his expense. Way thing should be. Swishy stick A.K.A switch was a thin green stem abt 3-4 ft long. It could wrap around you & sting like hell. Father was good with the belt. Knew just how to use it without leaving a mark. I would take the belt any day......... 73 Zeno:smoke: Quote:

The first assistant principal at a local high school was a nun. The place was just levelled, good riddance to ugly rubbish. |

I saw something like this about 20 years ago. Not sure if it's exactly the same piece but it was pretty similar. IIRC the TV was one of those 70's RCA B&W sets, 12" screen. The place I saw it was really strange. It was a furniture store with a mix of new and used stuff in some small town in Vermont. The owner had a gigantic collection of beer trays (not for sale, for display only, apparently.) I was living outside of Burlington and going to Glover for Bread And Puppet (Vermont's answer to Burning Man). The store must have looked weird enough for me to stop and check it out on my way back home.

Deleted message.. ;) have a great PM

I would not trust having a TV over my head like that .End up getting clobbered with it and they find you dead in bed.
It looks like something Sears or JC Penny would sell like the fridge with a 5 inch color TV in the door. |

Yep, down here in the south they were called "Keen switches". Mama/daddy/grandma/grandpa would send you out to pick one. If you got a wimpy one, it was worse for you! I'm sure RadioTVnut knows all about them too. |
aka the Hickory Switches. And the demand you pick it, and wimpy one made it a heck of a lot worse for ya. Yes, RadioTVNut knows it too well being from the South.
|
I remember those switches, and I'm only 16 years old! We had/have a peach tree in the backyard, with branches like curtain rods, one quick, jerky snap to get it off, and about 10 on the back of the legs. My twin brother nearly had that tree completely bare, with all of his grade school shenanigans.

Here is something similar, pictured in its natural habitat.

The design of those rooms is interesting to someone that did not live in that decade. The author has quite way with words...It has been the most hilarious read about any hotel that I've ever had.:lmao: EDIT: Holey crap that place is probably 20 minutes west of me!....I think I may have even seen the buildings (from outside) back when they stood, on annual trips to the family cabin during my youth! |

I think it was named "The Gobbler" because the Hartwigs ran a turkey farm and processing plant. Were the rooms rented by the hour? :D |
Hartwig's was a popular spot for UW-Whitewater students in the '60's & '70's. When your girlfriend came down for the weekend you'd dine her at The Fireside in Fort Atkinson, and then take her up to The Gobbler for the rest of the weekend.
UW-Platteville students took their girlfriends to Dickeyville for the weekend where you could get a motel room with a waterbed for $22/night. Remember the early '70's? A waterbed store in every shopping center. Now you rarely hear of them. . |
