1950's Crosley Clock Radio

Found this locally this morning. I'm not super sure of the model. Maybe an F-25?

Pretty amazing condition. It keeps time, and the radio sounds great. No cracks, scratches or gouges on the cabinet. Sleep timer. Alarm. I like it.

That may be the same model as a green one I passed on a few years back

zombie1210 09-16-2018 08:45 PM

Aw dude....too cool to pass on!

Electronic M 09-16-2018 09:26 PM

I think the clock was broken...I don't do clock repairs, only electronics so I passed.

Really handsome clock radio!

I would have done the same.

This was a woman's grandfathers's clock. So I guess its a grandfather clock. :D

Seriously though, it could pass for new. No buzz when the volume is down, and when rotated a bit while tuning, the stations come in clear and with good tone.

There's even an electrical socket on the back so a person can use the alarm to turn on appliances, like a coffee maker. 1950's innovation. :smoke:

I looks like a Telechron movement! It probably just needed a rotor. Easy fix!

I just noticed that I forgot to put the sleep knob on back on after I dusted and wiped it down.

Funny thing is that at twice the price of the "Crosley color clock radio" in the plain jane box , it likely has the exact same electrical components . It ain't the steak it's the sizzle ..... :D

init4fun 09-17-2018 05:34 PM

:thmbsp: Oh , and I forgot to say , I do like the looks of it , nice score !

:D PS , aren't you the guy who asked me if I have a warehouse for a hundred or so sets ? It seems you've been on quite the buying spree lately , not that there's anything wrong with that as long as ya got the room for them all :D

Every set in that ad except the one(s) with FM were probably the exact same AA5 circuit.

It's "V.I.P" that makes all the difference.

MY warehouse is not so large.
I'm now forced to focus on smaller radios, or give up a console or two. which I'm not going to do.

Small radios can occupy every nook, cranny, shelf, and alcove in my home. When that is full, some of the wife's crap will need to go. :D

Is that a SANGEAN near that clock??

Yes. The Radio shack version.

I was thinking it was a Radio Shack model.
To the OP: $59.95 for a clock radio! Little wonder, there isn't that many around! :sigh:

zombie1210 09-18-2018 10:13 AM

I thought the same thing. 60 bucks in early 1950's dollars for a CLOCK RADIO was rather high. In todays dollars it would be $626.76. Wow.

Boobtubeman 09-18-2018 05:06 PM

Probably works better than my dads SANGEAN... Dang thing hasnt worked right since he got it.. :D

I've got the middle one in the ad (the graduate), and it is indeed a garden variety AA5 chassis. Oddly enough, the chassis is mounted sideways with the bottom facing the front of the cabinet, that way the tuning knob connects straight thru the side without a dial string. Actually, it's a nice sounding radio for a plain-Jane set.

The clock radio to the left of it is built the same way.

Some of the Radio Shack worked well and good value for the money. :scratch2:

zombie1210 09-19-2018 07:15 PM

Its the same as a Sangean ATS 818. I have good luck with it. Shortwave is pretty decent after dark, and especially away from town.

vortalexfan 09-21-2018 08:32 AM

That's an awesome looking clock radio. I actually once found a 1952 Zenith Bugeye AM/FM Clock Radio at Goodwill for $5 and it still worked pretty well yet.
