Nice!

Your photos give me a warm and fuzzy feeling! I like them all. The first image is soft with a great complexion on the woman. Who is she and the movie?

EdKozk2 12-12-2019 12:32 AM

Looks like Judy Garland to me.

If you don't mind a working table model CTC5 with a later glass jug or a weak 21AXP and a bit of fotofinish flaking (and I get my other CTC5 going by spring), and you can get someone to pony Express it to you from the ETF or come n git it there I'd give give you the dirt cheap friends and family price (and I don't mean the redheaded step-4th cousin with 15 toes twice removed and regrowed price :D).

Judy Garland, as Esther in "Meet Me in St. Louis," the scene where she sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" to "Tootie" (Margaret O'Brien). :D

At first I lifted all of the images from the internet and played them through my over the air converter/media player. Then when I went back to broadcast reception, one of the local subchannels was playing the same movie! And, the picture looked better than what I had grabbed from the internet, so I quickly took some more shots and selected these two.

Don't be too envious - as noted here many times, The CTC-5 Super chassis is RCA's "barely better than none at all" color TV. A true white elephant of a vintage set; still, I will "love it and pet it and call it George."

That picture sure beats the flat panel tvs. Nothing like an old crt set its warm and the colors are as real as it gets unlike flat tvs , cartoon looking colors. That set looks great. And just think the reason crt tvs were discontinued they say it because of the hazardous meterials but flat tvs have hazardous stuff too, what a waste.

I can barely bring myself to call those ugly black plastic thingies "Televisions".. They are video display devices a step or 2 removed from airport terminal arrival/departure info devices..

My wife guessed Judy Garland. I’m going to find that movie. Well done.

This side of the pond it's time approaching for a message from the monarch.

I gotta get my Royal Sovereign running!

The Super series CTC-5's were capable of stunning color pictures when set up properly. I've never seen a side by side comparison w/a Deluxe series set but have owned both over the years.

How old is the Christmas tree decoration on the tv? My grandmother had one exactly like that.

I blelieve it was painted/glazed in a ceramics class by my Godmother, who passed away in 1969, and given to my father. However, my memory may be faulty, and it may have been done by her sister, which would have been some time between 1969 and my dad's passing in 1981.

So, at least prior to 1981, and perhaps prior to 1969.

"Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis" meshes with another interest of mine, world's fairs. As far as I know, it was the only song associated with a fair that attained any lasting popularity (and in my opinion, the only one that deserved any).

Most people have only heard the chorus, as sung in the movie, and do not know that it had seven humorous verses, and the chorus was modified to be a punchline for verses three through six.

Another factoid is that the verses and choruses are all in limerick form.

Here is an acoustic phonograph presentation of three verses and the following choruses:

The lyrics of 6 verses can be found here:

Thanks, but I confess it's a bit of a cheat. This was the earliest photo of George VI giving his Christmas message that I could find but this photo is from December 1939 and the BBC television service only ran pre-war from November 1936 to September 1939 so this recreation never happened.
