CTC 16L help

1 Attachment(s)
I got this out of the attic of the shop. It is in a lot better shape than the rest of the roundies. I am missing the back and I need to know the MODEL NUMBER. This will help me track down some parts. I need a tuner assembly and a sound board. This set needs to go back together.

looks like a good one to part out

i dont know but from the looks of the photo the set has seen better days , i bought a similar set and saved it for parts,

jstout66 04-02-2005 04:01 PM

You'll need Sams 736 Folder 4. My set is a CTC16L. I dont see a tunar assembly in the parts guide. All the controls are listed seperatley. The Sound Board is RCA # 114042.

polaraman 04-02-2005 07:58 PM

Thanks for all of your help. I have the SAMS but I needed the model number to search for certain parts. Chad helped me by sending the parts list. I have put worse sets back together. This one will eventually be playing again.

Tuner needed VHF KRK 118D
UHF KRK 120JT

Sound board RCA Number 114042

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this exact style set in my bedroom...will see if I can see the model number. The tag may be missing from the back, though.

polaraman 04-02-2005 10:22 PM

I have been looking at the CTC 17 SAMS and the parts I need are in that set also. CTC 17 was the first rectangular CRT color set. Anybody have one of thease laying around?

Update on the CTC 16L

Got a new flyback from Moyers.

Other persons donated almost all the knobs except for the VHF channel select knob. RCA Part number is 113926. Can anybody help?

Things are coming together on this set. :D

frenchy 04-14-2005 10:37 PM

do you have a part number from Moyers on that flyback, I might want to pick up an extra for my 16XL, thanks...Frenchy

polaraman 04-15-2005 05:10 AM

Frenchy,

It is Thordarson FLY 278. I believe they have a couple more. They are out of FLY 277. That is to the CTC 15. Your SAMS is on the way.

frenchy 04-15-2005 08:40 AM

frenchy 04-15-2005 08:46 AM

hey how do I 'find' that flyback on their site? Do I just have to email them? thanks

polaraman 04-15-2005 09:25 AM

It is easier to call them.

I think the CRT is gonna pose a TINY bit of a problem....Even for all the technical help available here...<grin>-Sandy G.

I looked at the knob photo posted by Blue Lateral and may be able to help with the knob if I had some more info.

Is the VHF knob metal or plastic? Is it for a 1/4" flat shaft? What is the diameter? Assuming there is an extension on the knob rear that goes into the cabinet, approximately how long is that extension? If it is the same as the UHF knob, that you mentioned you do not need, can you post a photo of the rear of that knob? Anyone have a Photo of the rear?

jstout66 04-15-2005 12:05 PM

Frenchy. I just got a spare flyback for my CTC-16L from Moyers about a month ago. It's RCA part number # 113992

jstout66 04-15-2005 12:10 PM

Frenchy, I just re-read your post. Do you have a CTC-16XL or a CTC-16L ? They are different flybacks. If you have a CTC-16XL (which uses a 2AV2) it's RCA part number #115843 The CTC-16L is an earlier production run and uses a 1V2.

It's an XL...I typed in 115843 under RCA on Moyer and nothing found so I guess no more (?)
thanks...Frenchy

polaraman 04-15-2005 05:15 PM

Frenchy,

I have ordered three Flybacks from Moyers and all were Thordarson. None have been an RCA brand Flyback. The Thordarson cross is a FLY 278 with the 115843 RCA part number. I have a Thordarson book that I got the number from. Call them and talk to Bill. He is the son of the man that started the business. They have 3 or 4 locations that stuff is spread out.

jstout66 04-15-2005 05:17 PM

Frenchy, They have it. They had a few of them last month. The website search engine isn't referenced to their RCA parts. If I remember correctly, it was around $35.00. Their number is: 1-800-577-6001

frenchy 04-15-2005 05:17 PM

ok I will email them, thanks!...Frenchy

This is the back of the UHF knob. The first extention to the VHF fine tune knob has a 1/2" extention. Not counting the part the the fine tune knob hooks to the tuner. The knob is metal.

Frenchy,
Either email them or give them a call. Others will vouch with me that they are very friendly and excellent in every way to help you with your order and most importantly know exactly what you are looking for. It also helps that they are reasonable and one of the quickest shippers i have ever experienced as far as purchasing parts. Good luck!

I knew that knob was familiar but, I don't have the exact one. I do have a couple with the same handle form but not the correct skirt. Let me know if you want either or both to try and make work.

Yo, I got this one from Moyer (Fly 276) for my 16XL as a backup, but the little diagram that comes with it shows a 1V2 in the circuit, not a 2av2. Can anybody verify this is definitely the right one and maybe the diagram is just incorrect (when I look at a 2av2 and a 1v2 they look identical to me anyway so maybe they are interchangeable?)...thanks...Frenchy

reeferman 05-06-2005 11:27 PM

Flyback #'s

The RCA service guide shows a p/n 113992 for the CTC-16 and p/n 115843 for the CTC-16X chassis. The schematics seem to be the same EXCEPT the 2AV2 has a thermistor (RV102) (no p/n) across lugs 1 & 4 of focus coil (p/n 113999)which is the same for both flybacks.

jstout66 05-07-2005 01:37 AM

I had the same set Frenchy. A CTC-XL uses a 2AV2 My current CTC-16L is a 1964 model and uses a 1V2

frenchy 05-07-2005 02:58 AM

okey dokey it's the right one then, thanks.... yeah now that the old one will probably last forever! oh well there's always another set to find!
Frenchy
