Packed away in 1941!!!

At least that's what the story is, and it looks good enough to be true:

Sandy, this is one I'd love to have!

Sandy G 12-14-2006 07:45 PM

Damnation, that IS purty ! Wish my SX-28 was that nice...

Fisherdude 12-14-2006 07:56 PM

It's already all over the Halli list.

Assertions have been made that the front panel is a repaint. Looks pretty good to me.

Joe Walsh is one of the bidders. Should be interesting.

Sandy G 12-14-2006 08:05 PM

Yeah, Joe dropped nearly $5K on an SX-88 a year or 2 back, didn't he? I think my SX-73 is more rare, prolly a tad better set, but SX-73s are plug-ugly, & don't have the rep the 88s do. BTW, that SX-62 I got back from Terry's? Consider that one retired. It found a PERMANENT home, in The Ship's Radio Room, back in the back of my house. It ain't a-goin' anywhere...<grin>

Fisherdude 12-14-2006 08:07 PM

Do you know Joe's eBay user name?

Sandy G 12-14-2006 08:12 PM

Nope. Seems like it was discussed over on the R-390 board.

Fisherdude 12-14-2006 08:19 PM

WB6ACU. Extra class.

I had emailed the seller regarding the fact that the dial lights are lit in the pics. I asked if he had fired it up, and if it worked. He just replied, and said it works perfectly.

that is an awesome looking unit!!!

fujifrontier 12-14-2006 08:58 PM

makes me want to get into ham radio

Sandy G 12-14-2006 10:07 PM

Oh, you DON'T hafta be a ham to have this stuff-I care not a whit about talking, I just love these old sets...

theblackknight 12-14-2006 10:12 PM

Wow, thats kind of cool looking. Not for me though. I used to be into old radios--here's mine. I was into the wood ones, not the ham ones though. I wish it worked.:sigh: This thread kind of makes me want to get into old radios again.

Henry- I'd imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to get that ol' gal talkin' again...

theblackknight 12-14-2006 10:20 PM

I think it just needs to be recapped. A friend of mine ordered them for me, but ive been busy and havent been able to get by and pick them up.--So many things on my "to do" list.:sigh: I also need a G-55 tube for it.

radioactive 12-15-2006 12:53 AM

wow i'd love to have that sx28 but its just not in the cards.

Fisherdude 12-15-2006 07:52 AM

The BIN was $6,000. I don't think it has a prayer of hitting that.

The assertion on the Halli list that it's a repaint/refurb is being rejected. Everybody's pretty certain it's legit. Btw, that paint color is correct. Most that you see are much, much darker due to age, uv exposure, cig smoke, etc.
