2Yrs till the big 50
I grew up with this console as a kid, She is an old time rocker. It was my Grandfathers pride and joy in the early 60's. My mother had it till the late 80's till she gave it to me, She had planes on ripping the guts out and installing updated components, Till i trew a fit.:nono: I have drug it around with me for the last 19years and it's time to get her shined up and sounding pretty. I posted a few picks on another group till I saw this room, could you guy's chime in and give me some refurb advise.

The same model is currently available on eBay, and it looks nice too:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Zenith-S...QQcmdZViewItem I'd consider bringing one of these into my home, except for this one's a P/U only in NY and there's no way I'd dump my Y928 for it. I really dig old stereo consoles! |
Zenith console stereo/phono on ebay
I just looked at the ebay listing for that Zenith. It seems in good shape; however, I wonder why the seller says he/she has no way to test the record changer. The person may have no records to test it with, but one sure way to check the cartridge and amplifiers would be simply to flick the stylus with a finger. If a scratching noise is heard in the speakers, one may be reasonably certain the system will play records, even if the changer's reject mechanism cannot be tested. I'm surprised this console's owner didn't think of running that simple test before stating he/she cannot test the changer. :dunno:
