50s B&W trash find in Los Angeles 2007!
This was my annual "Trash Find Rescue"... I was going through Chatsworth on my way home from a big GM car show today at Woodley Park in Encino, CA, and happened to spot a HUGE mountain of busted furniture lying on the edge of the road. I went around the block to check it out, and I was shocked to see a 50s B&W set still around, and being tossed! That neighborhood in particular seems to cough up a nice antique set now & then.
It's a Westinghouse Stratovision in a metal blond-grain consolette cabinet (missing legs?, and missing some knobs). Looks complete, some rust in the bottom. There is also a 1970s Zenith Avanti white pedestal/rosewood top console (25" solid state version), but I didn't bother to un-bury it. It looks OK, but has stuff stacked ontop and in front of it. If anyone wants it, go to DeSoto Ave about 100' north of Devonshire on the west side of the street. It was still there as of noon today, and there isn't any trash pickup there because it's in front of a vacant lot. Last year, it was an RCA 16" roundie that I found about a mile from this set. I don't want to keep this, all I wanted to do was rescue it before somebody might throw a brick at the 21" B&W tube  See the TV classified thread... It's free to good home!!!! Charles, what's the number of the CRT in that Westy?
|
It didn't have a legible tag on it. It's shaped like a 21ALP4, the medium-shallow envelope. Not the deep one like 21ZP4. Unfortunately, I won't be back over there 'til Monday night. I can check more closely then.

Whimper ! Whine ! Sure do wish there was a cheap 'n' easy way to get that puppy to NE Tennessee...<sigh>
|
Reason I was asking is I need a 21ACP4 for my Zenith Flash Matic.
Don't want to dismantle that set if it's restorable of course. |

It might be right, but some Zeniths have those vertically-flat tubes. This is a regular rounded one... I had a Flashmatic, but I can't remember if it had the flat tube or not :scratch2: Charles |
I can't tell for sure by looking at it, looks rounded but the room it's in is pretty dark.
|
You should save that Zenith set for the sake of mother earth. Think of all that horrible lead in the glass that will run into the groundwater as soon as it rains.
Hurry! :sigh: |
Wow, that looks a lot like the Westinghouse TV cabinet I have. http://www.geocities.com/wa2ise/radios/west-tv.jpg
Don't have the chassis or CRT, though... |
When I was looking for a crt for my flashmatic I found there was a long list of subs that will work. I ended up swapping in a 21CBP4 as I recall. It has a shorter neck than the original-if they had used it orginally they could have eliminated the tube cap on the back. The face does have a slightly more rectangular appearance, or maybe it's just me. It fit fine, though.
