15" CBS-Columbia color set on eBay from ETF

I was surprised that this hadn't shown up yet on AK... Looks like Steve McVoy is offering a very nice CBS RX-90 on eBay! I had two of the 19" versions; one had been updated with a 21AXP22. I've never seen the 15" one, and certainly never heard of one for sale before!!!!

Hehe, nice to know you have a sufficient number of outside interests (aka a life) to keep you from doting on every such TV listing, but in fact this is the second RX-90 to be offered on the bay in less than a year's time.

15HP22 is the original curved-mask tube. The picture displays on the face of the tube, not on a plate through a window.

The 15HP22 was the CBS-HYTRON answer to the 15GP22. It featured a much simpler construction, with the phosphor dots on the faceplate of the CRT, and used the shadow mask as the template foe depositing the dots, so the shadow mask to dot alignment was perfect. Three simple glass balls held the shadow mask in perfect alignment.

I guess RCA was so busy inventing the tri-color kinescope they could not see the forest for the trees. All subsequent color CRTs had the dots on the faceplate.

It is not a all glass CRT, and still has that crazy metal flange at the front of the tube, as it used the same envelope as the 15GP22.

The first photo shows the 15GP22 (left) beside the 15HP22 (right). Note the lack of decorative mask on the 15HP22. The second photo shows the 15HP22 in its "truck" assembly, as found in the CBS RX90 15" color TV.

There are only two 15HP22s still known to exist. Mine, alas, is still under vacuum, but completely worn out.
