He came by today on the way to some family visits with his wife, and friend (?)

We had been talking about the CTC-11, and I decided I wanted to take a crack at it. He was interested in a zenith set I had, so we swapped. The CTC-11 is now in my hands, and time permitting, I will try to figure out its vertical troubles and get it back up to snuff. Aside from its troubles, I love the simplistic look of the metal cabinet. just need to get the legs back on it and it will look all the better.

Shawn is a great guy, much younger than I figured! --probably not much older than me. It was nice to meet another AK guy and fellow TV nut :yes: Hopefully I will get to meet more of you and check out your collections. So much to do, so little available time.

You west-coasters should arrange for a chartered flight (busride? carpool? :D ) or somesuch to Hilliard for the Early Television Convention; I agree it's always nice to meet fellow collectors, especially those we kinda feel we've come to know through message boards like AK.

we swapped tv's and I am happy and pleased to meet someone as nice and friendly and helpful as he is, I had an awesome time checking out his collection and talking to him! I just wish I had a chance to hang out longer, (my wife was giving me a hard time) so I was not in the best of spirits, but the trip to his house made my trip much more pleasant! I hope that CTC-11 works out for you Jordan and I boxed the legs up and there getting sent off today! It's cool to se that us younger guys are taking on the interest in vintage electronics, at least I know with more people like us this equipment will be handled and preserved for future generations!

Thats cool! Im 31, i've been collecting around 13 and repairing at 21!

I was surprised how many of us younger guys were on here as well. I'm 29, I've been collecting them since I was 7, but I didn't start repairing them until I was 21. The set I've had the longest is my great-grandmother's magnavox b/w combo I got in 2000, that was the set that got me started learning to repair them.

I'm 29 as well. Have been playing around with vintage electronics since I was around 13 or 14 and was hauling home junked out TVs from the local repair shops and tearing them apart. Now that I look back, I wonder if the people at the shops thought of me as a pest or not, as I used to hang around them so much. I've been building up a collection only in the last few years though, because now I have a place to put them.

lol, same here, I worked at a place called Sacramento Video Service for ROP in high school, and the only reason I got a job there is because I used to hang around there so much that they decided to put me to work! I learned alot from those guys during the booming era of television and VCR repair

I too have a CTC-11 with vertical problems; mine is in a wooden early American style cabinet; nice set, was the lobby set at the TV station I worked at for 30 years; I put a new picture tube in th set and last time the set worked properly, great looking picture. I got nowhere trying to get the vertical problem fixed (white line) and the sets been sitting idle since ovinf into a new house 3 years ago. Hope to get back into it soon though; good luck with yours.

I started doing this at about 12 when i was given a zenith tube TV to fix. It was a mid 60s 19" space command 300. I had a blast with that set and learned to repair it from research and reading books on TV repair from the 50s and 60s.

I had that set and used it 12 hours a day. It eventually died with a bang and a cloud of smoke as the fly shorted, but it was a damn sweet set.

I'm only 24, but I've learned alot and won't stop learning about these sets and how to fix them until I'm dead. I love these old sets.

I'm 40, been tinkering (later repairing) since 9. Collecting since about 13, when I found a '49 Hoffman 12" table model with doors at a garage sale.

I'll be 36 in a few weeks...started tinkering with radios when I was about 12; I drug home my first old tv before I was old enough to drive. The local TV repairmen usually managed to ignore me; at least, when they retired I ended up with all their stuff!

I'm turning 20 soon lol. I started at 15 when my dad gave me an old sony b&W he had inherited. Also had a 1982 samsung with remote in my room growing up. Even before I knew anything about electronics, the newer tv's just seemed 'flimsy' to me. How right my impressions were.

I was about 10 when I got my first old TV, a ca 1951 17" tabletop. As fluid as my collection has been over the years I still have that old Motorola.

I'm 'bout youz guyz age, so it's scary to realize the first pre-war TVs I ever saw (at Henry Ford Museum) were at the time as old as the earliest VCRs are now.
