RCA on eBay

Man, this set's been listed about a hundred times with no takers.
Now it's $25 BIN, isn't there anyone in PA who can save it?

They just can't seem to unload that thing... It's been on eBay on & off now for about a year. I'm surprised though, since it's a nice high-end set, and fairly rare.

Size matters. There is no room in this house, no room in the garage or storage room for any more TVs bigger than a lunchbox. So if I want something new, I have to get rid of something else to clear a spot.

Which isn't all bad. Now I'm in "upgrade mode," where you don't mind ditching an old friend if it gives a chance to some hotter new prospect :-)

"RCA Victor "New Vista" console TV"

Looks more like 60's. Did RCA market "New Vista" B&W TV sets? Maybe it's a color set with a dead color demodulator?

If Micro$oft releases a Vista update, should they call it "New Vista"? :D

New Vista = nuvistor, tubes used in the tuner of black & white and color receivers.

bgadow 12-14-2007 02:54 PM

"New Vista" referred to sets with nuvistor tubes in the tuner; it was used on the whole RCA tv line throughout the sixties. I bet the cost of this set when new would have been about as much as a cheap color set. These "square-corner" bw consoles are unloved, and will get quite rare because of it.

Sorry I stepped on you, Dave!

I just picked up a New Vista B/W portable today from a minor eBay score. So I guess they made'em in black and white.

i like that set,its just too far away. if it was a color set,i might travel for it. not too sure about the color-greenish gray? hope someone saves it.

I'd get it but man, it's UGLY

kx250rider 12-15-2007 11:28 AM

I don't think it's an RCA cabinet. It's probably an Ethan Allen, or other high-end furniture store set. Ethan Allen sold TVs at their stores with exclusive cabinets. Just a guess on this RCA.

I have several RCA B&W portable TVs that use the Nuvistor as the RF amplifier. Some say New Vista on and some do not. These TVs date from 1961 to 1965. There are probably others from outside these dates.

One thing that I have noticed is that these TVs seem to have better selectivity than the other TVs of the same era using the glass RF amplifiers. I am not sure why. However, they do share one irritating feature common in TVs in the 1960s-the tuner that uses wafer switches(not the barrel type). In some cases it is very difficult to get these to clean well and make good contact. The barrel type(used by Zenith, and possibly others, in at least some of their TVs) is much better.
