Sweet Polly Purebred! Too much money to start with, and he'd have a lot more play if he sold them separately or in multiple smaller groups. Good luck finding someone who'll buy the entire lot.

A clever maneuver would be to sell a couple of the stinkers with the more desirable sets....kinda force the turds into the deal. This is what goes on in the wholesale used car biz.....if dealer B wants a snazzy car from dealer A he then is forced to buy a junker or two. This is the way they get rid of their junk.

I think he's got $750 worth of stuff there.

His inventory includes a rebuilt 3KP4 CRT and there are a few nice looking sets there. He also has some other CRTs in various conditions.

The Telekit is interesting, if incomplete.

Nice looking GE Locomotive. Pretty interesting Emerson. Wouldn't mind having the CRTs. But you're still having to get a "pig-in-a-poke". No thanks.- Sandy G.

This is a little off the main topic here, but Anthony maybe you can provide some insight. I have seen used car dealers here with old cars that I might be interested in buying, such as old 1970's Town Cars and Grand Marquis. These cars have SAT in the backs of their lots for years. However when I inquire about looking at them the salespeople don't want to sell. Is this because they think they won't get enough commission from an old junker?
You would think they would be glad to get rid of them.

TV's: If the starting price was half that I would have to strongly consider at least bidding; not to say it isn't worth this but just not too me. Hmmm....the more I think about it, do I really want that many projects on my plate? (excuse me, that many MORE projects on my plate?)

CARS: I know that the local new car dealer has a large lot full of older trade-ins and he will absolutley not sell any of them to the general public. Lots of them are real heaps but sometimes there will be something desirable. The idea is he won't sell anything that won't pass state inspection & he doesn't want to even bother with these cars. They are wholesale only. Not sure if thats the reason everywhere, though.

Dunno why they're holding onto them, doesn't make much sense as room is money. Maybe they plan to eBay them for the big bux? Why dontcha go ask them?

IMO, if the only thing wrong with the 1948 RCA TV in that assortment is a bad cord, the set itself could be worth something, even if the rest of the stuff in the collection is junk (as a lot of it seems to be, at least from where I sit--many of those sets are probably good only for parts; even at that I wouldn't trust anything I salvaged from a late-1940s TV to be much good--I'd sooner get my replacement parts brand new).

However, I think there may be more wrong with the '48 RCA than just the cord. As we here on AK all know, any piece of electronic gear that old is bound to have any number of problems, such as long-dried-out electrolytic capacitors, shorted transformers, off-value resistors, corroded underchassis connections, intermittent potentiometers, and the list goes on. Again, I wouldn't dare to assume that a set that old would work, well or otherwise.

Some of the parts being offered in that auction, such as tubes, could be of some value if they are good, but again, who knows their actual condition? Unless they have been tested and the seller knows beyond the shadow of even the most unreasonable doubt that they are good, I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole.
