Aaargh, sometimes this hobby is frustrating!
 

So I've been working on a Stewart Warner 9100B with a Raytheon chassis, got it working pretty well after spending a few days trying to get the heater string sorted out, recapped almost completely, working fairly well with just a little sync problem when suddenly it dies on me!

Picture just faded out and a faint sizzling noise like a cap that was venting. Nothing as easy as that though, more like the HV transformer took a dump! :pity:
Note, this set is a 10" set but it uses a oscillator HV supply just like the 7" electrostatics do but bigger. No doubt a complete unobtainium part. :sigh:

I can sure sympathize with you on that... Similar setbacks have happened to me on many occasions. I bet that one will turn up.

Dont feel so bad, it happened too me last week. I just finished recapping my Admiral 19a-11 7in set, worked like a champ about 3 hours, picture just faded away!!! and then that smell. the hv trans must have a short, if you let it cool, it will show a pix for about 3 seconds and then fade. any ideas???

Eric,,, that is frustrating... I always tell myself if it was easy, anyone could do it.

How much voltage to the anode of that 10" kinescope?

An old Tektronix high-speed scope--such as the 513D--has an oscillated HT supply that puts out some killer voltages.

The alternative might be to wind your own.... :eek:

I think it's 10-12k, I have several scopes around here with problems, maybe I'll check into that idea. :scratch2:
There are also the Emco? HV transformers that were being used for the 7" sets but they were $$
