Help identify old family roundie

1 Attachment(s)
I ran across a picture of myself at a very young age with a clear shot of my grandparent's roundie in the background. I was just wondering if any of you knowledgeable AK'ers could identify it just from the picture. Sadly, the set is LOOONG gone although I wouldn't mind finding another like it some day. The picture was taken probably late 1975. I remember grandma always yelling at me to stay at least 10 feet away from the screen or the radiation would get me!

It looks like a 1967 Zenith Model 21X4120W.

Hit's a Roundie.... Sorry, couldn't help myself....

Luckily, not that uncommon a set. One of the best built ever so they lasted. I think there are some similiar models owned by members here, though I'm not sure of the cabinet style.

I take it grandma's set remained in use sometime into the 80s...?

Here's an example of the kind of picture you can expect from one:

Yes, they had it until at least 1984 if memory serves. Too bad I never was able to find out what became of it. (Both of my grandparents them have been passed away for some time) I currently own the house they lived in. When I acquired it in 2003, there was only a mid 80's tabletop of unknown make which got tossed as well.

That set really has a great picture!

It is a 1965 Zenith, last of the round tubes from them. This set wasn't offered in 1967 as they were into rectangular sets for two years by then.

Julian:

That set is pictured in my 1967 Zenith Brochure. Yes, Zenith started to sell rectangular sets in '65 but they continued the roundies for a few years. I can post a picture of it if you wish.

I'd like to see scans of all the Zenith brochures from color-era until about 1983. Until this is done, I will not believe you. :D

I found a 1967 brochure that I have and yep it's in there. Zenith had 5 non-remote roundies that year.
